Aamir Khan is all set to release his passion project Laal Singh Chaddha in less than two weeks. It is a remake of Tom Hanks’ classic film, Forrest Gump (1994) and the internet is buzzing with netizens comparing the visuals of Aamir’s film, as evident in the trailer, with that of the original film. During a media interaction, a journalist asked Aamir Khan if he was inspired by Tom Hanks’ performance while shooting. To which, Aamir Khan gave an answer that surprised everyone!

Aamir Khan revealed that he was not sure whether Advait Chandan, who had only made Secret Superstar (2017), will be able to direct a film of this kind. So, he asked Advait to direct 7-8 key scenes from the film as a test shoot. He was free to form his own small team for it. Aamir, however, insisted that he’ll not act in this mock shoot.

Meanwhile, Junaid Khan had just returned home after studying acting in the USA. Aamir asked him to play the lead character of Laal Singh Chaddha in this test shoot. The superstar felt that he’ll kill two birds with one stone – through the test shoot, he’ll learn not just about Advait Chandan’s directing abilities but also Junaid Khan’s acting abilities.

The shoot did happen. When Aamir Khan and his ex-wife Kiran Rao saw the final cut, Aamir said that they were blown away. They were also highly impressed with Junaid’s acting. This is when Aamir decided to launch his son in and as Laal Singh Chaddha! Aamir Khan showed the film to many people in his circle like Karan Johar, Mansoor Khan, Satyajit Bhatkal, Svati Chakravarty etc and they all agreed with Aamir on this. On top of it, Aamir had grown his beard for six months to play the role. After watching Junaid’s performance, he even shaved off his beard, as he was certain that he is no longer doing the film.

However, Aamir Khan revealed that two people disagreed – one was the writer of the film, Atul Kulkarni, and the other was Aditya Chopra. Aditya Chopra remarked that Laal Singh Chaddha is not a plot-heavy film. Instead, it’s an episodic fare and one should not launch debutants in such a type of a film. Both felt that Aamir Khan should himself play the lead in Laal Singh Chaddha. Aamir found merit in Aditya Chopra’s argument and decided to take on the role. He once again grew his beard.

Aamir Khan then answered that therefore, he wasn’t inspired by Tom Hanks; instead, it was Junaid Khan who inspired him. Aamir Khan observed that Junaid got the sur of Laal Singh Chaddha right as just like the character, he’s also an innocent person. Thanks to him, he understood how to play the part.

So did Junaid Khan feel bad about losing on to such a big film despite playing the part flawlessly? Surprisingly, Aamir Khan revealed that Junaid was fine with it. In fact, Aamir stated that Junaid himself was not in favour of doing the role. “Junaid bahut practical hai,” said Aamir and explained that his son explained to him that he shouldn’t be cast in a film with such a huge budget!

Interestingly, Aditya Chopra later offered Junaid Khan a film titled Maharaja and it is now going to be his debut film. It is expected to be released in the first half of 2023.

The season 7 of Koffee With Karan kicked off on Disney+ Hotstar with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt followed by actresses Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan as guests in the second episode. The third episode saw Akshay Kumar and Samantha Ruth Prabhu who brought lively potboiler of glamour, secrets and witty one-liners. One of the common talk points were how they have been Ranveer-ified.

During the rapid fire session, Karan Johar asked Samantha Ruth Prabhu, "If you were hosting a bachelorette party, which two Bollywood hunks would you hire to dance?" She replied, "Ranveer Singh and Ranveer Singh."

Samantha was asked, "If you were cast in a love triangle with Akshay Kumar, who is the second male actor you will pick," to which she said, "Ranveer Singh. You know, yesterday I shot an ad with him and I am Ranveer-ified completely. A fan for life," she said.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ranveer said, "Hopefully, we'll have a more in-depth collaboration in the future because I think she is a wonderful person, a very warm person, lovely energy, and an immensely talented person. We did an ad film together. There's where we met and engaged for the first time. It's on that day that she said that ‘Hey I'm actually shooting for Koffee With Karan tomorrow’.”

He added, “I appreciate her as an artist immensely and even more so as a person, even one to one she's so lovely, she's so warm, she's light-hearted, she's humourous and it's wonderful that through advertising one is able to connect to one's co-actors. Hopefully, I'll do a full-fledged feature film with her in the future.”

On the work front, Ranveer Singh will next star in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus, releasing on December 23, 2022. Following which, he will star in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Shankar’s Anniyan.

BREAKING: Prem Geet 3, the first Indo-Nepali film, is all set to release in cinemas in India on September 23, 2022

In the past few years, the trend of releasing South films in Hindi has picked up considerably. It’s a great time as viewers are open to watching films from different regions of India, as long as it’s entertaining and has mass appeal. Taking this trend forward, now one more industry is ready to enter the arena and score at the Indian box office – the Nepali film industry. Prem Geet 3, the first Indo-Nepali film in Hindi, is all set to storm cinemas on September 23, 2022.

Along with this announcement, the makers of the film have also launched an exciting poster of Prem Geet 3. The poster mentions the release date of the film and also that the theatrical trailer of the film would be released on September 1.

Prem Geet 3 is the third part of the super-hit Prem Geet franchise. Pradeep Khadka, the biggest star in the Nepali film industry, featured as an actor in the first two parts and also stars in Prem Geet 3 as the lead hero. Unlike Prem Geet and Prem Geet 2, the third part is a grand period action film, mounted on a huge scale.

Indian filmmaker Subhash Kale is the producer of Prem Geet 3 and he is ensuring that the film manages to woo Indian audiences so that they buy the ticket and experience its magic in cinemas. What has also gone in their favour is that there are four songs in the film and popular singers like Ankit Tiwari, Palak Muchhal, Dev Negi, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Pawandeep Rajan etc have lent their voices to these tracks.

Lead actor Pradeep Khadka is very happy with the Indian release of Prem Geet 3. He said, “I find it as my new birth as I will be having a new identity as someone who got a chance to venture into a new world, representing the Nepali film industry, for the first time in its over 50 years of history.”

Lead actress Kristina Gurung exclaimed, “I feel very blessed that the first film of my career is crossing boundaries and is making inroads into Bollywood. It’s something beyond my imagination. I am having butterflies in my stomach already!”

Director Santosh Sen stated, “It’s not just my first Indo-Nepali film but it is first in the history of the Nepali film industry. So, I am totally overwhelmed and feel responsible to set a course for the future.”

Subhash Kale, meanwhile, said, “Nepali film industry has been making some fine films. I felt that when Hindi-speaking audiences could accept South films with open arms, then they could do the same with Nepali films as well. Prem Geet 3 is the apt film to begin this trend as it has the scale and grandeur, and a popular actor. I am confident that Prem Geet 3 will get audiences in hordes in cinemas in India.”

Apart from Pradeep Khadka and Kristina Gurung, Prem Geet 3 also stars Shiva Shrestha, Maotse Gurung, Sunil Thapa and Manish Raut. It is directed by Santosh Sen and the late Chhetan Gurung. Chhetan Gurung also wrote the film along with Mandeep Gautam. Besides Subhash Kale, Santosh Sen, Prashant Kumar Gupta and Sushama Shiromanee are the producers of Prem Geet 3.

Alia Bhatt on working with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan on her first Hollywood project Heart Of Stone: 'They made it so seamless and so easy'

Alia Bhatt is set to make her Hollywood debut in Netflix’s Heart of Stone, and star alongside Gal Gadot. Jamie Dornan also stars in the spy thriller. The Aeronauts filmmaker Tom Harper is on board to direct and the story is written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. Earlier in July, Alia returned to Mumbai after wrapping the film. She was in London for over two months for the extended shoot schedule.

Speaking to Variety, the actress said that the experience was amazing. “It was my first Hollywood big English picture experience and I had quite a task at hand because I was shooting for the first time an action movie,” said Bhatt. “But I’m also pregnant so there were so many layers for me to deal with. But they made it so seamless and so easy and so comfortable for me. It’s something that I will never forget because of how beautifully and how well I was treated.”

“I had such a lovely time shooting with Gal [Gadot], with Jamie Dornan and with my director Tom Harper. I think we’re onto something pretty cool with ‘Heart of Stone’ and I can’t wait for the world to see it,” she added.

On the work front, Alia Bhatt will star in her maiden production, Darlings. The film stars Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. It is set to release on August 5 on Netflix. Post that, the actress has Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the film arrives in theatres on September 9, 2022.

One person dead in fire on the sets of Luv Ranjan’s next starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor; FWICE demands enquiry: 'What if mishap occurred with 1000 workers'

One person has died in fire on the sets of Luv Ranjan's next starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha. Following their Spain schedule, the trio kicked off the shoot in Mumbai, a few days ago. However, the shoot had to be halted due to a major mishap on the sets of the film. It is being reported that a 32-year-old man, Manish Devashi, who was working on the sets of Luv Ranjan’s film lost his life in the fire.

 

Major smoke coming out of Chitrakoot Ground in Andheri West, Mumbai grabbed the attention of onlookers on Friday. According to statement to PTI by civic officials, the person was brought dead at the Cooper Hospital in Juhu. Ashok Dubey, General Secretary, Federation of Western India Cine Employees, said that another man suffered some injuries who was doing set lighting work.

FWICE General Secretary spoke to ETimes and said, “There was no shoot going on when this incident occurred. One person lost his life. A film unit has 800-1000 workers and technicians, what if the mishap happened when the shoot was on? For the past 4-5 years, we have written letters to CM and fire authorities that proper investigations should be conducted at such places."

"These accidents are happening repeatedly. The one who built this studio floor had made two other studios that have been burnt to ashes in Bangur Nagar area in Goregaon West. We are now writing to the producers' body that they must check whether a fire audit has been done before booking studio floors. The federation is issuing notices to producers' body and production houses and also the chief minister stating that such unauthorised structures should be permitted to function without a fire audit and NOC. In the absence of fire audit and NOC, the federation will ask workers and technicians not to work at such studios," Ashok Dubey said. He said it will demand an enquiry with BMC.

Another set that may have suffered due to this fire is that of Rajshri Productions. The makers of the film are yet to release a statement.

Ek Villain Returns: Rubik Cube artist Selwyn Santmajor pays tribute to the John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria starrer

The ensemble cast of John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria come together for the first time in Ek Villain Returns. The film, directed by Mohit Suri, features them in grey shaded roles and the trailer of the film gained a lot of momentum owing to its music and chemistry between characters. For the first ever, Rubik Cube artist Selwyn Santmajor, who is quite popular on social media for his talent, paid tribute to the film in his own style.

Selwyn Santmajor created massive posters of Ek Villain Returns by arranging Rubik Cubes. The talented artist showcased the intense chemistry between the lead couples in these posters. According to his post on Instagram, it took him 10 hours to create these 10 feet posters of John Abraham and Disha Patani as well as the Arjun Kapoor and Tara Sutaria. He shared this post on Instagram adding, “After 10 hours and 1144 Rubik's Cubes later, the look of this 10ft x 5ft portrait of the Villains will keep you stunned! 😍 #EkVillainReturns.”

Coming from the house of T-Series and Ekta Kapoor, Ek Villain Returns is a standalone sequel to its predecessor Ek Villain. The recent film features John Abraham, Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria, and Arjun Kapoor in lead roles which each character holding back a part of their life as mystery. The film seems to have kicked off fairly at the box office and last evening, owing to the response, producers Bhushan Kumar and Ekta Kapoor as well as actress Disha Patani were seen distributing sweets to the media. The film, directed by Mohit Suri, released on July 29.

Onir speaks about how he was falsely accused of molestation and the humiliation he faced from police for being gay: "They suggested that I should be kept in a lock-up since I indulge in such SINFUL activity"

Onir recently released his memoir, 'I Am Onir & I Am Gay', co-written by his sister Irene Dhar Malik. As the title suggests, he has opened up about his sexual preference and identity in the autobiography. India has recently decriminalized homosexuality after abolishing Section 377. Yet, people in India are still not open to the idea of two people of the same sex falling in love or having a relationship. Onir has talked about this aspect and also of the time when he was falsely accused of molesting a guy.

Onir wrote that in 2011, a guy he knew from his gym met him over wine and dinner one evening. Onir confessed that "We flirted and got a little physical with each other". They also parted, promising to be in touch. The next morning, the man sent Onir "some sweet messages".

Hence, Onir said that he got the shock of his life when a few days later, a journalist informed him that the guy reached out to her and told her that he had molested him. Onir made it clear that he was lying. Yet, she broke the news and it was picked up by several publications.

Onir stated, "I was alone in my flat, feeling numb, crying, blaming myself for seeking love and desire, confused about why he did what he did". Fortunately, his parents assured him that they trusted him and they supported him. His sister and his friends, including Sanjay Suri, also came out in his support.

Onir was told to file a police complaint against the guy. His assistant Amar Kaushik, who later went on to make films like Stree (2018) and Bala (2019), also joined him. At the police station, the cops humiliated Onir for being gay. At the same time, they also realized the allegations were false as the gym guy was far stronger and there was no way Onir could have harassed him. Onir wrote, "They suggested that I should ideally be kept in a lock-up since I indulge in such sinful activity".

Amar Kaushik jumped to his rescue, said Onir. He said that he handled the entire process of registering the complaint. Onir admitted, "I will be forever grateful to Amar for accompanying me, shielding me from the humiliation and harassment and dealing with the police. On my own, I would have broken down or collapsed".

A day after Onir filed a complaint; the filmmaker filed a defamation case for Re. 1.

Although Onir doesn't name the guy in the book who filed a complaint against him, it was actor-model Yuvraaj Parashar who had made the accusation. He had made Dunno Y Na Janne Kyun (2010), a gay love story. It also featured him as an actor. In 2015, its sequel, Dunno Y2... Life Is A Moment, was released. Both films also starred Zeenat Aman in a supporting role.

EXCLUSIVE: Kartik Aaryan reveals details of Freddy being an OTT release; says, “I did the film keeping that in mind”

Kartik Aaryan, who is riding on the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, took a break after the record-breaking success of the horror comedy. After returning, he dived into Shehzada, his next most anticipated project which is a remake of the Allu Arjun starrer Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo. But amidst his multiple films, the actor also did an unconventional romance drama titled Freddy with Alaya F and Jeniffer Piccinato, which is expected to have an OTT release. The actor recently revealed exclusively to Bollywood Hungama that not only did he know about this but he has done the film keeping in mind his OTT audience.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama about Freddy releasing on OTT, Kartik Aaryan said, “Main woh film ki hi isiliye thi.” (Transl: I did that film because it was supposed to release on OTT). The film is said to be a dark romantic thriller about obsession and love. “It’s a nice subject that I am really excited about,” shared the Shehzada actor.

Further speaking about the film, Kartik revealed, “Uska abhi post production chal raha hai. Uske baare mein cheezein abhi dheere dheere bahar aayengi.” (Transl: It is currently in the post production stage. The details of the film will slowly be revealed.) As for the OTT platform, the actor says, it is still in the decision stage. “Let’s see on which platform we will be releasing the film. All of those details are yet to be decided. This is the kind of things that the director and producer will be thinking of,” he concluded.

Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Kartik Aaryan will be paired alongside Alaya F for the first time for Freddy. Besides this, Kartik Aaryan has Shehzada, Captain India, and Satyanarayan Ki Katha in the pipeline.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika are one of the biggest on-screen pairings in the history of Indian cinema given their epic blockbusters Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express, and Dilwale. They recently sizzled in Spain as leaked photos from the sets took the internet by storm. The glamourous duo shot a hugely mounted song in Mallorca as SRK was papped flaunting an eight-pack and DP her perfect bikini bod. They then headed to Cadiz and Jerez in Spain where they wrapped the schedule on March 27th.

“It felt right to make my comeback with my dad’s song, ‘Woh Beete Din’”, says Tanya Kumar who will soon be making a comeback to music

Remember Tanya Singh Kumar? Yes, the daughter of the late Ajit Singh who made her debut back in 1993 with the film Aaja Mere Jaan alongside Kirshan Kumar. Well since then Tanya has come a long way, from featuring on television to even venturing into music. But, Tanya has been away from the limelight. However, things are all set to change with Singh making a comeback to music with a recreation of her father Ajit Singh’s track ‘Woh Beete Din’.

Revealing her calling to develop the track and make a comeback to music, Tanya revealed that the entire process was like a calling. “My father passed on in 2020 very suddenly. But sometime in December ‘21, I started getting this ‘calling’ again. Almost as if my dad is pushing me to ‘do it’. All my friends and family started pushing me to start, especially my masi Sapna Morarji in Pune, who would actually call or text me every morning to check how much progress I’ve made with my training and music. So I started my vocal Riaz at home by myself, experimenting for long hours every day, to find my voice once again. I had recorded another track first, but then it only felt right to make my comeback with my dad’s song, ‘Woh Beete Din’ just like I made my debut with it in 2000.”

Ask Tanya for details about the track and she adds, “A song I have literally grown up listening to at home, composed by my father Ajit Singh and written by my mom Gittanjali Singh, ‘Woh Beete Din’ is very close to my heart. We have revisited it and re-programmed it with a house /EDM vibe & also added a new verse. I was looking for a new sound and someone who would have the tuning to understand what I want, and I feel blessed that my brother made me meet Jeff Hunt, who has done full justice. We are also lucky to have got the maestro Kalyan Baruah to play the guitars, which are such an asset to the sound and vibe of the song.”

Further talking about the track and the journey it was to develop it Tanya shed light on the same saying, “It was a very beautiful one! Like a trip down memory lane! Right from laying the first IT, to seeing it change with every added track, to getting my brother Arhhan to sing the male adlibs, to my mom spontaneously writing the new lines.  Also, Convincing Jeff to give a go at mixing and mastering it ourselves, since he had all the tools & sensibility to do it. It took a month of edits and re-edits, but we finally did it! We’ve had many arguments among us, especially my sister Nattasha, who has given a few great suggestions in the music edit. Even Jeff’s father John Hunt was a blessing, being there at all the recordings and mixing sessions. The best part has been that every single day that we worked on ‘Woh Beete Din’, it was almost like my dad Ajit Singh was there with us, guiding us & making us do it His way. We all could feel it!!! He left me a legacy and he wants me to take it forward! His genes and passion for Music and I wish to make Him proud up there.”

As for the process of re-envisioning the track for modern music tastes, and how the long process took Tanya continues, “Well, the composition was already there, so we started working on the music arrangement sometime in April and recorded it in May end. We used to jam almost every day for more than a month to get the feel and vibe of the music to what it is. In a few of our sessions my mom, sisters & brother were there too, and we decided to add a fresh verse... and my mom just closed her eyes for a few minutes, and then wrote something and said “try these lines” and that is the opening ad-lib & new verse -‘Itne Kareeb hoke tum…’”

A month later, she joined Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in JugJugg Jeeyo. In all honesty, one expected this film to be a Rs. 100 crores grosser. Its lifetime ended at around Rs. 85 crores. Nevertheless, it’s considered a healthy figure, especially when compared to other latest releases which struggle to cross even the Rs. 30 crores mark. In this Raj Mehta-directed film, she looked like a million bucks, especially in the sensuous number, ‘Rangisari’. Performance-wise, she was first rate. The two scenes in the second half – one, where she discusses love, life and relationships with Neetu Kapoor and secondly, her showdown with Varun Dhawan – proved that she has gotten better as an actor.

Before these films, she had two more releases, both of which premiered directly on OTT. Several films had a direct-to-digital release but only Kiara Advani can claim to have real digital blockbusters in her filmography. Her first digital release, Laxmii (2020), got negative reviews but amassed record viewership. It even had a fantastic run on television, which proves that had the Akshay Kumar co-starrer been released in cinemas, it would have put up good numbers.

Her second digital release is Shershaah. It is considered to be the biggest blockbuster on OTT due to its viewership and terrific word of mouth. Of course, the film was centred around the character of Sidharth Malhotra. However, Kiara Advani’s presence contributed to the emotional quotient. She also was seen in the songs 'Raataan Lambiyan' and 'Ranjha', which are rare tracks in the present times to have got thumbs up from one and all. Trade pundits have often said that Shershaah would have been a Rs. 100 crores plus film if it had arrived on the big screen.

If one takes into consideration her 2019 films, then her track record is enviable, to say the least. She was paired opposite Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh. As the shy and coy Preeti, she won hearts. The film was a surprise blockbuster, collecting Rs. 278.24 crores, surprising the industry, trade and fans. She ended 2019 with Good Newwz, which also crossed the Rs. 200 crores mark.

Unfortunately, in these 3 years, she had one flop in the form of Indoo Ki Jawani (2020). The collections were a paltry Rs. 1.06 crore! However, it was released when theatres had just opened after the first lockdown and there was a lot of fear over going out and watching a movie on the big screen. In better times, it would have definitely collected a lot more.

What also goes in Kiara Advani’s favour is her conduct. She has remained non-controversial. Often, actors have a hate club due to their actions, political views, looks etc. She has none. Kabir Singh was panned by a section of audiences for its content. The director Sandeep Reddy Vanga got into trouble for his views on love and violence. Kiara was also asked some tough questions but she never landed in a soup over her views. She knew how to put forward her point, without hurting anybody. A lot of actors need to learn from her how to walk the fine line!

Despite giving 2 Rs. 200 crores films, 1 Rs. 100 crores flick and 2 major blockbusters on digital, Kiara Advani doesn’t believe in bragging and wants to keep her foot on the ground. During the promotions of JugJugg Jeeyo, when this writer asked if she thinks in terms of box office and entering the Rs. 100 crores and Rs. 200 crores clubs, she replied, “I want every film to do better than the last one. But I don’t think that ‘meri iss film ne itna collections kiya aur uss film ne utna collection kiya’. I want every film to do well and be loved. That’s what we work for, right? We want a lot of people to watch our films. We want to touch the hearts of the people with our movies. So I am hoping for the best.”

Kiara Advani’s upcoming slate of films also sounds exciting. Her immediate release would be the comic caper Govinda Naam Mera, co-starring Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar and produced by Karan Johar. This will be followed by a Telugu film with the working title RC15. It stars RRR star Ram Charan and it’s directed by blockbuster director Shankar. Finally, she’ll reunite with her Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 co-star Kartik Aaryan for a Sajid Nadiadwala production. Here’s hoping she manages to continue with her dream run. She is in a great position in the industry today and if she can choose the correct scripts that can show her worth as an actor and also get mass acceptance, then the sky is the limit for her!

Arjun Kapoor is ecstatic about Ek Villain Returns opening well; says “For me, personally, there is a lot to be proud of”

The keenly anticipated release Ek Villain Returns starring Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria hit screens yesterday. Directed by Mohit Suri the film opened on a good note, with Rs. 7.05 cr coming in. Thrilled with the opening the film received, Arjun Kapoor is pretty kicked about the film emerging as the fifth biggest opening of his career.

Arjun says, “The fact that Ek Villain Returns opening is the fifth biggest of my career, even while the industry tries to bounce back post-pandemic, is extremely validating. I have consistently tried to do films that connect to the youth and the masses and it feels great to see them enjoy Ek Villain Returns. I’m thrilled with the start that the film has got and I’m sure it will continue its momentum in the days to come.”

Arjun is thrilled that Ek Villain Returns has opened at the box office and that he could contribute to a Hindi film’s opening at the counters. He says, “For me, personally, there is a lot to be proud of. The fact that I have been able to contribute to a Bollywood film opening at the counters is validation enough. I’m glad that people are appreciating my performance. I wanted to be a part of an edgy, cool film and the result is something for me to cherish right now.”

As for his future projects, Arjun has an interesting mix of films this year that will see him straddle many genres. Apart from being seen in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns, Arjun is also in Aasman Bhardwaj’s Kuttey and Ajay Bahl’s The Ladykiller.

However, the look seems to have left fans wondering if it is his new avatar for Pushpa 2. Many of them took to the social media platform and dropped in comments like “Pushpa 2????”, “Pushpa 2 look????” among others. Does Shamshera’s debacle affect the release strategy and buzz of Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film, Brahmastra? Trade experts share their views

Ranbir Kapoor’s next film, Brahmastra, will be releasing 1 ½ month from now. This big-budget film carries strong buzz due to the superhero element, VFX, pairing with wife Alia Bhatt and the super-hit song ‘Kesariya’. However, will Shamshera’s debacle affect the release strategy and buzz of Brahmastra?

None of the trade experts feels that Brahmastra is in a spot. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Brahmastra is a different film. Of course, one would invariably talk about it after the debacle of Shamshera. I guess we’ll have to wait and watch how that film fares. Eventually, the film does the talking, irrespective of the cast. In the case of Shamshera, you had the best of making stars, production house etc. The actors promoted it extensively. Yet, it’s a complete disaster.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, agreed, “Each film is different. The buzz remains intact for Brahmastra.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan opined, “You can’t compare Shamshera and Brahmastra. Had Shamshera been a big hit, there would have been immense pressure on Brahmastra to do bigger numbers. The makers of both the filmmakers might be sharing good relations but somewhere everyone hopes that ‘meri film ka dhanda dusri film se zyada hona chahiye’. Brahmastra is now free of that pressure. The film took time but then it had to be delayed due to the two years of the pandemic. Also, it has a stellar cast.”

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshay Rathi in agreement added, “The audience judges each film on its own merit. We have had enough scenarios where superstars had films that underperformed and immediately, their next film was a blockbuster. For example, Salman delivered Tubelight (2017) followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). So I am sure that it can happen to Ranbir Kapoor as well. What will define where Brahmastra goes is its merits and demerits. I truly hope the film is great. It’s been made on a large canvas. It’s intended to cater to the widest possible audience and I hope it can achieve that. The film has indeed taken forever to be made. However, Ayan Mukerji has done a good job as a storyteller in his previous films. Wake Up Sid underperformed at the box office but nobody can deny that it was a tale well told. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, meanwhile, was a smash hit. Here’s a filmmaker who has the craft and nuance to tell stories well. If he can do that with a large-scale film like Brahmastra, then the sky is the limit.”

Akshaye Rathi signed off by remarking, “The intent with which Aditya Chopra, Karan Malhotra and Aditya Chopra made this film, which is to cater to the mass, I hope the underperformance of this film doesn’t discourage them from attempting it all over again. If a Besharam can fail for Ranbir Kapoor, so can a Bombay Velvet. So it’s not about mass films failing or class films working. It’s about films that are engaging for the audience, irrespective of how wide a net it casts. So the philosophy with which Ranbir has entered the arena, which is to cater to the country at large rather than to the metros, I hope he sticks to that and keeps attempting it over and again. After all, he’s one of the last few true blue superstars that we have in this country.”

"People would often stare at Raima Sen maybe because of the neckline of her outfit. She would fling herself all over me and exclaim, 'In pe nazar mat daalo, yeh mera hai'" – Onir

Onir came into the limelight after his first film, My Brother Nikhil (2005), got immense critical acclaim. However, many are not aware that he had worked extensively for more than a decade on many projects before he made his debut as a director. One such venture was Kalpana Lajmi’s Daman (2001), starring Raveena Tandon, Sanjay Suri and Raima Sen. His bond with Sanjay Suri is quite known as both later collaborated on many films and became close friends. In his recently released memoir, 'I Am Onir & I Am Gay', co-written by his sister Irene Dhar Malik, Onir opened up about his bond with Raima Sen.

Onir wrote that though he was a decade older than her, she treated him as if he was of the same age. He also remarked, "She reminded me of her grandmother Suchitra Sen - she had those same dreamy eyes, that beautiful smile".

Onir then talks about the crazy adventures he has had with her. He revealed that when they both would roam in Mumbai in an autorickshaw, people would often stare at Raima Sen possibly due to the neckline of her outfit. She would, however, pretend that people are staring at Onir and her. She would fling herself over him and say "In pe nazar mat daalo, yeh mera hai"!

Onir also became good friends with Raima's sister, Riya Sen, who’s also an actress. He wrote that one day, they all three went drinking. The Sen sisters pretended to have vodka shots but actually had water. Onir had no idea about it and he had too many shots. Hence, he alone got sloshed.

Since Onir was heavily drunk, Raima and Riya Sen got him home. This is when their father walked into the living room, where the filmmaker was lying on the sofa. Onir wrote, "I loudly asked what this strange man was doing in the living room so late at night!"

Finally, Onir stated that "Every time Raima wanted to get rid of the man in her life, she would flirt with me excessively in front of him". He ended the chapter by stating that even today; she is as beautiful, feisty and naughty, as she was when he first met her.

Rajkummar Rao purchases triplex apartment in Juhu for a whopping Rs. 44 cr; pay Rs. 2.19 cr for registration

A little while back it was reported that Ranveer Singh had shelled out a staggering Rs. 119 cr to acquire a sea-view quadruplex apartment in Bandra. Now it is learnt that Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha too have shelled out a whopping Rs.44 cr to acquire a new property. As per reports, Rao and Patralekha have acquired a triplex apartment in Juhu, from none other than Boney Kapoor’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor.

The latter who purchased the property in December 2020, which is spread over 3,456 sq ft, has apparently sold the same to Rao taking the price to nearly Rs.1.27 lakh per sq ft. With this new acquisition, Rao and Patralekha, who currently reside in the same development on the 11^th and 12^th floors, will have an added apartment across the 14^th, 15^th, and 16^th floors. If that was not enough, reports also claim that Rao has shelled out Rs.2.19 crores as registration for the said triplex apartment which comes with exclusive access to six parking slots.

Though there has been no confirmation from either side about the sale and purchase of the premium triplex apartment, the said deal was apparently registered on July 21, 2022.

Veteran actress Mumtaz reveals her birthday plans; says, “My entire family will be there”

The iconic diva of Hindi cinema Mumtaz who turns a year older on July 31 has big plans for the special day. “My husband (global entrepreneur Mayur Madhvani) has made some special plans for my birthday this year. As you know I’ve two daughters. One lives in Dubai the other in Italy. Both my daughters-in-law and my sons-in-law love me a lot. Fardeen my daughter Natasha’s husband, is just like own bachcha. When Fardeen’s mother Sundari (Mrs Feroz Khan) was pregnant with Fardeen we had together done special prayers for his healthy delivery.”

The entire family will get together in Uganda for Mumtaz’s birthday this year. “All of my loved ones have been invited by my husband to come to our home in Uganda for my birthday. We have a beautiful beach house in Uganda. And my entire family will be there. My children, my grandchildren …what would be a happier birthday than this for me? My husband and I love our grandchildren to death.”

After her birthday Mumtaz will return to her home in London. “I will now come to Mumbai again when some work materializes. I want to make sure that my comeback film will be something really special.”

Looking back at her journey so far Mumtaz say, “Bahot pyar diya logon ne. Itna diya ke mujhse sambhala nahin jata (people have given me abundant love, more than I can handle). Even forty years after I quit acting people in Mumbai recognize me. Strangers come up to me and ask, ‘Aap Mumtaz hain na?’ I reply, ‘Bilkul nahin.’ But they aren’t fooled. They know it’s me.”

When asked to pick her favourite performances Mumtaz says, “I like quite a few. I thought I was decent in Khilona, Aaina, Apna Desh, Jheel Ke Uss Paar where I played a blind girl, Aadmi Aur Insaan and Bandhe Haath, my only film with Mr Bachchan. But my favourite is Vijay Anand’s Tere Mere Sapne. I wish I had got the Filmfare award for Tere Mere Sapne instead of Khilona.”

Shocking: Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor starrer film halted after the Luv Ranjan’s film sets catch fire

Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer untitled film, which was being shot in Spain, started its new shoot schedule in Mumbai, a few days ago. However, the shoot had to be halted due to a major mishap on the sets of the film. The sets created in suburban Mumbai were completely destroyed due to a fire accident. However, no casualties were reported but a few crew members suffered minor injuries.

A few hours ago, major smoke coming out of Chitrakoot Ground in Andheri West, Mumbai grabbed the attention of onlookers. Soon it was reported that a fire broke out on the sets of the Luv Ranjan film. While soon the fire brigade team arrived, it seems that the fire burnt about 3 floors of the set and the makers, have reportedly incurred a heavy loss due to the accident. According to ETimes news report, another set that may have suffered due to this fire is that of Rajshri Productions. “All three floors of the sets were burnt down. Rajshri and Luv Ranjan both packed up their sets as soon as the fire started. There is some chaos here as people are saying some crew members are missing, we don’t have the exact details yet,” said a FWICE member in these reports.

These reports, however, assert that neither Ranbir Kapoor nor Shraddha Kapoor were present on the sets of the films during the incident. A source was quoted in the portal saying, “Luv Ranjan was to complete one of the biggest songs of the film on this set. 400 dancers were supposed to be a part of the song. They had already shot some portion of the song with Shraddha Kapoor, which was her introduction song. She fell ill and shoot had to put on hold while Ranbir Kapoor was to join her post his Shamshera release. The team was to resume shoot from day after.”

REVEALED: Here’s why Rohit Shetty and Kanika Dhillon have been thanked in Ek Villain Returns

The suspense thriller Ek Villain Returns released today and is expected to embark upon a good start. Starring John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria, the Mohit Suri-directorial reportedly has quite a few surprises and twists in the tale. Interestingly, this aspect starts at the very beginning of the film, during the disclaimer slates.

Under ‘Special Thanks’, several people have been mentioned. However, two names stand out – blockbuster director Rohit Shetty and acclaimed writer Kanika Dhillon, of Kedarnath (2018), Rashmi Rocket (2021) and the upcoming Raksha Bandhan and Dunki fame. The reason these two names grab attention is that they have not worked with Mohit Suri before. Moreover, their zone of cinema is different from that of Mohit Suri.

Bollywood Hungama has learnt that Mohit Suri has been signed by Rohit Shetty’s production house, Rohit Shetty Productions. Mohit was supposed to make the film with the same script as Ek Villain Returns with Rohit. However, it was not supposed to be under the Ek Villain franchise. Meanwhile, producer Ekta Kapoor was looking for a script for Ek Villain’s sequel. When she happened to read the script of Mohit Suri’s next with Rohit Shetty, she realized that it is apt for the sequel of her 2014 super-hit film, which starred Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh.

Ekta Kapoor is Rohit Shetty’s rakhi sister. She approached Rohit and requested if he could hand over the script rights to her so that she can make Ek Villain’s second part. Rohit Shetty, without any hesitation, agreed. And that’s how Mohit Suri directed the story but with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and T-Series, and it was called Ek Villain Returns.

Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor recently spoke about this episode in a press interaction when asked if Ek Villain Returns is copied from a Korean film, as alleged by a self-styled critic. Speaking highly of Rohit, she said that when she asked him for Ek Villain Returns’ script, he “very sweetly, like good brothers do, gave me the script back and said that's yours.”

As for Kanika Dhillon, she has written additional dialogues in the sequel. Hence, she got a mention under ‘Special Thanks’.
