EXCLUSIVE: Girish Johar slams BOGO gimmicks, fake reviews, Rs. 500 tickets; urges Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan to build cinemas in small towns – “It’ll help them understand taste of audience and make films accordingly”

The industry trends change every few years. But post-pandemic, the changes have been sudden and also unexpected. Girish Johar, producer and eminent film business analyst, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, opened up on aspects like reduced ticket prices, dearth of cinemas, BOGO, losing credibility of reviews, etc, in simple layman terms.

From a trade perspective, can reduced ticket pricing serve as a viable strategy to drive footfall in theatres, or does it risk devaluing the big-screen experience? I am of the firm belief that if theatrical business flourishes, then everything in the ecosystem will benefit. The theatrical economics has to be right. Theatres have tied up with malls and are paying higher rentals. As a result, they need to earn by hiking up the rates of snacks and tickets. Meanwhile, the audience always has the option to catch the film on OTT. They are not ready to watch below-average content on higher ticket prices. Sadly, 90% of the content in today’s times is below average. They argue that why should they pay a bomb to watch such films? This further draws them away from the big screen. This probably can be resolved with reasonable ticket pricing and a regular flow of content. In 2018-19, it was the small and mid-sized films that flourished like Badhaai Ho, Andhandhun, Article 15, etc. These films were expected to collect in the range of Rs. 30-40 crores. But they ended up collecting Rs. 70 crores and in some cases, even more than Rs. 100 crores. Such movies need to be priced averagely. You can’t sell its tickets for Rs. 500. That can be charged for tent-pole films but then there are not more than 10 such films.

I always give the example of cricket. The slog overs do matter and in the case of cinema, these are the tentpole films. But it is the middle overs (that is, mid-sized films) which are crucial. This is when the players need to score 4s and 6s.

Will we ever see a day of Rs. 100 ticket pricing so that the moviegoing experience becomes affordable for the common man? It is possible. It has been implemented during Cinema Days though its effect has now diminished. Also, it should not be held blindly. It should be backed by content which will cater to the audience paying for discounted tickets. In my understanding, it is the regional economics which should derive such pricing. What is stopping such offers in specific regions for a specific day, like say Indore Cinema Day or Bhopal Cinema Day?

In the pre-pandemic era, the attitude of the moviegoer was different. They would turn up to watch any film every week as they were habituated. Now, moviegoers scan the film minutely before watching it. They ask, ‘Is it worth it? Aren’t the ticket rates too high? Will the film be out on OTT soon?’ We need to re-cultivate the habit of the audience of coming to the theatres.

As I said earlier, the more theatres benefit, the more the industry will flourish. More productions will be greenlit, more content will be made. Even allied industries like printing, F&B etc, will benefit. Direct commissioning of films on OTT will also increase.

Meanwhile, the cinemas need to understand that it's not a good idea to promote OTT platforms in cinemas. They might get 2x or 3x the rates for these ads. But when a patron buys a ticket for Rs. 500 or Rs. 1000 and sees an ad stating the OTT subscription is available for Rs. 99 or Rs. 199 per month, the theatres are simply hurting themselves.

From an industry-builder’s point of view: Do you believe stars and studios need to actively invest in cinema infrastructure in underserved regions to expand theatrical reach? There are certain places where there’s no theatre for miles. Whenever I visit Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani, I always wonder where its residents watch films on the big screen? The nearest cinema hall is in Wai, which is 30 kms away… We have seen Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham talking about it. If they or other prominent celebrities come on board with a particular chain and become its brand ambassadors, then nothing like it. It’ll be much better as they’ll understand the ecosystem of cinemas minutely and the taste of the audience. This will help them select and make films accordingly.

Bhai ko, behen ko… Dushman ko, Yaar ko… And of course, apne Pyaar ko… Kal Jawan dikhaaiyega! Chacha-Chachi, Phoopha-Phoophi, Maama-Maami… Yaani Poore Parivaar ko. Sab ke liye ek ke saath ek free ticket!!!

Toh kal se… Parivaar, yaar aur pyaar… Just Buy 1 ticket and get the… pic.twitter.com/Qr9gI4ihcO

With the rise of social media chatter and peer-led opinions, has the traditional influence of film critics and reviews on box office performance diminished? Also, there has been a growing chatter around box office credibility. Is the industry, in trying to create perception, risking long-term damage to its own credibility and sustainability? Yes. I believe that the audience is no longer taking reviews and box office numbers seriously. It has become a marketing tool. The more the industry uses these tactics, the more ineffective it becomes. A critic giving a dishonest review may take money and give a mild or positive review to a poorly made film. The audience will trust his review, go for the movie, get disappointed and wonder, ‘Isne toh bola acchi film hai?’. This way, you can fool the audience once or twice but after that, they’ll lose the trust. They now trust the reviews of a friend or a family member more than the actual critics. I saw that happening with Sitaare Zameen Par as well.

Meanwhile, the audience is bombarded with advance ticket numbers and news of the film collecting Rs. 100 crores. It might tempt the audience to watch the film. But when they go to the theatre and see that the audi is empty, and on top of that when the content is poor, they feel cheated. This promotional tool has gone on for years and now the audience laughs at it. It's also common to see fans of a particular actor posting how the show of a rival actor’s film was full or almost full on BookMyShow. But when they went to watch it, there were a handful of patrons inside.

What are your views on the Buy One Get One Ticket free offer, popularly called BOGO? Does it result in success at the box office for a film? It was a tool used to pull a section of the audience to cinemas, the one which was in two minds. The idea was that the greater number of people watch a film, the more they’ll talk about it and it’ll further attract an additional higher number of moviegoers to cinemas for that particular film. Again, this tool has also backfired. Now the perception is that ‘Film bakwaas hogi; isliye ek pe ek ticket de rahe hai’. Excessive use of anything, that is not in the right spirit, nullifies its USP.

To give you an example, there was a producer who asked the ticketing app to issue BOGO coupons worth Rs. 10 lakhs. Despite getting a free ticket for every ticket, the film failed to get enough audience and the coupons worth Rs. 10 lakhs didn’t even get fully consumed!

A film like Jawan implemented BOGO in its sixth week. Do you think that it makes sense to have the offer just weeks before its OTT premiere? It can tempt that section of the audience, which is waiting for its digital release, to catch the film in cinemas instead. Yes. By the fifth or sixth week, the film has already proved its mettle. It is at the end of its run. If that is when BOGO is implemented, it would be a fair strategy. Again, it depends on the content.

Ali Fazal on learning guitar for over a month for Metro… In Dino; says, “I wanted to make sure that every time I played on screen, it felt honest”

Actor Ali Fazal has been preparing for his role in the upcoming film Metro… In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, by learning to play the guitar. Although he briefly portrayed a guitarist in his debut film 3 Idiots, Fazal took a fresh approach this time, training under a professional guitarist for over a month to bring realism to his performance as a musician.

Speaking about the experience, Ali Fazal shared, “Playing a musician is not just about holding a guitar and pretending to strum, sometimes yes, it is. But sometimes it’s all real. I believe that authenticity is everything, especially in a film like Metro… In Dino, where the story is deeply rooted in human emotions and music is a part of the character’s soul. When I played a guitarist in 3 Idiots, it was just a cameo—more of a fun, quick moment. But this time, my character is a musician at the core, and that comes with a responsibility to do justice to the role. There were chords I could play, chords I couldn’t play. But it’s Basu Da frame. So you have to make sure you give it your all.”

Ali added, “I spent over a month taking lessons with a professional guitarist, not just to learn chords but to understand the instrument, the body language, the relationship between a musician and his guitar. It’s not easy; your fingers hurt, and it takes real dedication. But I wanted to make sure that every time I played on screen, it felt honest—not just to me but to the audience.”

Ali further added, “Anurag Basu’s stories are always layered, and I felt that if I didn’t dive deep into this part, it would be a disservice to the character and to the film. I’ve always believed that music is a universal language—it connects us in ways that words sometimes can’t. That’s what I wanted to capture. I hope audiences can feel the effort and love I’ve poured into this role.”

Metro… In Dino is slated for a July 4th release, and Ali’s preparation is sure to add a memorable layer to this much-anticipated project.

Arjun Kapoor says actors today would "think ten times before doing a film like Ki & Ka;" speaks about "constant fear of reviews, reports"

Arjun Kapoor celebrated his 40th birthday, and to mark the occasion, he engaged in a heartfelt online fan-meet session. During the conversation, the actor opened up about the challenges of being in the industry and shared his thoughts on how the current landscape often discourages experimentation.

Speaking about the most challenging part of being an actor, Arjun said, "I think the most challenging aspect now is the ability to make choices to take risks and not be scared of failure or worry about 'log kya kahenge'. It’s about still feeling those butterflies in your stomach. The challenge is not to play it safe. The current environment has made most of us a bit comfortable because there's a constant fear of reviews, reports, and whether a film will work. When I did Finding Fanny, I didn’t overthink it. I liked the concept and the director's vision, so we made it happen."

Reflecting on the evolving landscape of cinema, Arjun added, "In today's time, people would think ten times before doing a film like Ki & Ka. They'll wonder whether the audience will accept it, how the woke culture will react, and so on. In that process, you might lose the simplicity, sincerity, and genuineness of what you're trying to do. You start manufacturing things. As an actor, authenticity has become the toughest part because everything today is about decoration and positioning. Acting-wise, I believe it's very difficult to truly understand our country."

Arjun also drew from his filmography, sharing, "When I did Ishaqzaade, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and Aurangzeb, I was trying to understand those particular worlds and the thought processes of those characters. Building a character, a story, or a mindset and staying honest to it throughout the film is tough. It requires effort and time. All of it is difficult, but also exciting. The authenticity of portraying a character is an interesting challenge. For Half Girlfriend, I learned the dialect and dubbed my own dialogues, but I felt the intensity of the dialect was slightly lacking."

"In Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, the intensity of the dialect and dialogue delivery was well balanced. That’s why my character in the film feels very direct. These are technical aspects, but they're also crucial to being an actor," he concluded.

From Ishaqzaade to Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, Aurangzeb and beyond, Arjun Kapoor has explored a wide range of characters and narratives. With every project, he continues to stay unpredictable and unafraid to experiment a quality that sets him apart from his contemporaries.

Puja Banerjee pens FIRST note after being accused of kidnapping and extortion: “God is watching”

Readers may recall that television couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma were recently accused of serious charges by Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey, who alleged that they kidnapped him in Goa and extorted Rs 23 lakh. Now, a couple of weeks after the news broke online, the couple has finally broken their silence.

Puja recently took to her social media handle to share a note addressing the situation. “Going through the toughest time of our lives. To those who are standing by us — we will be forever grateful. And to those who believe in the lies spread against us — God bless them too. I believe in God, and you know, GOD IS WATCHING,” her note read.

A post shared by Puja Banerjee (@banerjeepuja)

While many of her followers expressed support, some remained confused and concerned about the unfolding situation.

For context, earlier this month, Shyam Sunder Dey spoke to the Times of India, claiming that he met Puja in Goa and was later taken to a villa, where he was held against his will. He alleged, “I stayed at the villa from June 1 to June 4. I wasn’t allowed to leave. Every day, I tried to reason with Puja and Kunal. I reminded them that we were like family and pleaded with them to stop. But all I faced were threats.”

According to Dey, he managed to use a spare phone to send his location to his wife. He also secretly recorded a video in the bathroom and forwarded it to her. Following this, his wife contacted the police, and based on her complaint, he was rescued from the Goa villa on June 4.

Puja, Kunal, and their associate Piyush Kothari have since been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to abduction, extortion, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement.

In a Facebook post, Dey’s wife Malabika further alleged that Puja and Kunal had threatened to frame the filmmaker in a false drug case if he didn’t pay them. She claimed that the couple forced him to transfer Rs 23 lakh out of the Rs 64 lakh they had allegedly demanded.

Javed Akhtar REACTS to Sardaar Ji 3 backlash over Hania Aamir’s casting: “No Pakistani money is at stake, only Indian money is”

Ever since the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3 was released, Diljit Dosanjh has remained in the headlines. While some are calling for a ban on the actor-singer, others are empathizing with the producers, citing their lack of control over the recent conflict. Now, renowned writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the release of Sardaar Ji 3.

Speaking at NDTV’s Creators Manch, Akhtar said, “Ab kya karein bechara. The movie was shot earlier. Usko pata toh nahin tha ki aisa hoga. Ismein Pakistani aadmi ka paisa toh nahin doobega, Hindustani ka paisa doobega. Toh phir kya faayda? (Translation: “What can he do now? The film was shot earlier. He didn’t know this would happen. No Pakistani money is at stake, only Indian money is. So what’s the point of halting it?)”

For the uninitiated, both the film and Diljit are facing backlash over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in an Indian production. The criticism intensified after the Pahalgam terror attack, which was followed by India’s counter-operation, Operation Sindoor. Hania Aamir was among several Pakistani artists who publicly criticized the operation, further fuelling outrage.

He further added, “Usko pehle pata hota yeh hone wala hai, toh woh thodi na leta Pakistani actress. I think the government and the censor board should look at the situation with a little sympathy. And say that don’t do this again, but since you made this film before, release it. But it should not happen again.”

Akhtar’s remarks come at a time when Diljit Dosanjh is under increasing scrutiny. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) recently sent a letter to filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, urging him to cut ties with the singer-actor. Imtiaz is working with Diljit on an upcoming untitled film, which is set for a Baisakhi 2026 release.

Amid the ongoing controversy, there were also reports suggesting that Diljit had been dropped from Border 2. However, these reports were later denied. As of now, Diljit Dosanjh has not publicly addressed the situation.

It’s worth noting that, due to rising Indo-Pak tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 opted for an overseas-only release. The film was released internationally on June 27, 2025, skipping its domestic release entirely.

Kareena Kapoor Khan reveals why her sons Taimur and Jeh are irritated with her work schedule: “When I’m shooting for ads, 10–15 days a month…”

Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan recently offered an intimate glimpse into her life as a working mother—and the small tensions brewing at home. In a candid chat with Vicky Kaushal, she revealed how her career commitments have begun to test her sons’ patience, especially after her husband’s sudden absence due to filming.

In a conversation hosted by The Hollywood Reporter India, Vicky asked Kareena how her children handle her being away for shoots.

“It gets tough. This year, Saif went out and shot for two films, so they were used to Mumma being home. Now, if I go to shoot—like for a couple of days, when I’m shooting for ads, 10–15 days a month—they’re constantly irritated. They’re always like, ‘Where is Amma?’,” Kareena said.

Clearly, the kids had grown accustomed to Mumma’s presence. When Kareena had a similar workload—advertising commitments that pulled her away for extended stretches—Taimur and Jeh struggled to understand her absence. It’s a relatable scenario for many working families, albeit with a Bollywood twist.

Kareena then shed light on how her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, has become the fun parent in her stead, “They love it when Saif is there, because Saif is such a lovely father, and he is a hands-on father. Also, they get extra TV time when he is around. My elder one loves to play guitar and drums with Saif. When I am not around, they always get extra TV time. The father always spoils them; otherwise, I am always like ‘Go to bed’,” she added.

Kareena doesn’t sugarcoat it—she’s the bedtime enforcer, while Saif plays dad the kids adore. More screen time, more play, fewer sleep reminders—a contrast that Taimur and Jeh clearly prefer on days when Mumma is absent.

Despite occasional toddler tantrums, Kareena’s commitment to both career and family remains unwavering. Her transparency reinforces that even Bollywood’s brightest faces pause when family calls—and sometimes miss their mum.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan got married in 2012. Fondly known as ‘Saifeena’ by their fans, the couple first crossed paths while working on the film Tashan in 2008, and their bond quickly turned romantic. They became parents to their first son, Taimur Ali Khan, in 2016, followed by the birth of their second son, Jehangir Ali Khan (Jeh), in 2021.

On the work front, Kareena Kapoor is set to team up with Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran for the first time in Daayra. The film, directed by Meghna Gulzar, will tackle intense themes of crime and justice while shedding light on pressing and disturbing social issues. Currently in pre-production, the project is co-written by Meghna Gulzar, Yash Keswani, and Sima Agarwal.

A one-of-a-kind mythological-horror MAA rests on some fine performances Movie Review: MAA is a one of a kind mythological horror film

Star Cast: Kajol, Kherin Sharma, Ronit Roy

Director: Vishal Furia

Maa Movie Review Synopsis: MAA is the story of a woman trying to save her daughter. Ambika (Kajol) lives in Kolkata with her hubby Shuvankar (Indraneil Sengupta) and daughter Shweta (Kherin Sharma). Shuvankar is originally from Chandarpur, West Bengal and has broken all contact with his ancestral village. Shweta is hell-bent upon visiting Chandarpur but Shuvankar refuses to listen to her plea. The same day, Shuvankar learns that his father (Aashit Chatterjee) has passed away. Shuvankar reaches Chandarpur and completes the final rites. He meets the sarpanch, Joydev (Ronit Roy), and expresses the wish to sell off his mansion. He leaves for Kolkata the same night and dies under mysterious circumstances. Ambika and Shweta are in shock and manage to move on in life. A few months later, Joydev informs Ambika that a broker will be arriving in a few days for the sale of their property. Since it was Shuvankar's last wish to get the sale done, Ambika decides to head to Chandarpur to do the needful. Shweta also joins her as she doesn't want to be left alone. Both reach Chandapur, leading to madness. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Maa Movie Story Review: Saiwyn Quadras' story is praiseworthy. Saiwyn Quadras' screenplay is riveting for most parts but gets messy in some places. Aamil Keeyan Khan and Ajit Jagtap's dialogues are simple and also hard-hitting as required.

Vishal Furia's direction is promising. He manages to create a very eerie atmosphere and that adds a lot to the impact. The goings-on touch a chord as it's about a mother fighting for her child. As a result, there's a universal appeal. Moreover, we have seen horror films and horror comedies while MAA stands out as it's a mythological horror flick. This makes it a one-of-a-kind film. A few scenes stand out like the intro, the death of Shuvankar and Ambika and Shweta reaching Chandarpur for the first time. Post-interval, the scene in the car takes the cake. The climax fight is arresting.

On the flipside, in a few scenes, the VFX is tacky. Films like SHAITAAN [2024] and also those of Maddock Cinematic Universe have set a benchmark when it comes to CGI in this zone. While the makers get it right in some scenes, the VFX leaves a lot to be desired in the rest of the film. A few developments are plain silly and might lead to unintentional laughter. Also, the makers ideally should have ended the film at a certain point. The very last scene will put off viewers and also goes against the idea and even the title of the film. Another factor that might be seen as taboo is the crucial plot of girls getting their first periods, though one can’t deny that it’s an interesting idea.

Maa – Official Trailer | Kajol, Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma | Vishal Furia

Maa Movie Review Performances: Kajol delivers a smashing performance and proves yet again why she is one of the finest actors of our times. She is exceptionally fiery in the climax. Kherin Sharma lends able support. Ronit Roy is the surprise of the film and this is surely one of his most accomplished performances. Indraneil Sengupta is lovable in a supporting role. Jitin Gulati (Shekhar) does well but his character gets a raw deal. Gopal Singh (Bikash) and Dibyendu Bhattacharya (Bimal) are impressive while Rupkatha Chakraborty (Deepika) and Surajasikha Das (Nandini) leave a tremendous park. Aashit Chatterjee, Vibha Rani (Purohita; old) and Yaaneaa Bharadwaj (Purohita; young) are fair.

Maa movie music and other technical aspects: The song ‘Kali Shakti’ is forgettable but its visuals are striking. Amar Mohile's background score adds to the effect. The same goes for Pushkar Singh's cinematography. R P Yadav's action is a bit gory and works well. Sheetal Duggal's production design and Radhika Mehra's costumes complement the goings-on. NY VFXWaala's VFX is a mixed bag, as aforementioned. Sandeep Francis' editing is functional.

Maa Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, MAA stands out as it’s a one-of-a-kind mythological-horror film and also rests on some fine performances, especially by Kajol and Ronit Roy. However, it suffers due to tacky VFX, inconsistent writing and an unacceptable plot point in the climax.

Akshay Kumar sends best wishes to Ajay Devgn and Kajol for Maa ahead of clash with Kannappa: “May the power be with you”

After portraying Lord Shiva in Oh My God 2, Akshay Kumar is set to return in a similar divine avatar in Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming film Kannappa. The film is slated for release on June 27 and will clash at the box office with Maa, a drama headlined by Kajol and produced by her husband, Ajay Devgn.

While both camps have remained largely silent on the box office face-off, Akshay Kumar recently took to social media to share a lighthearted and supportive message for the team of Maa. On the evening of June 24, the actor posted the trailer of Maa with a warm caption: “Yaar Ajay, hum dono ki picture aa rahi hai iss Friday. Tu apne fans ki good wishes #Kannappa ko bhej de aur main mere Mahadev ki blessing #Maa ko. Kya bolta hai? Good luck to Kajol and you bhai… May the power be with you.”

The post received mixed reactions from fans. One user wrote, “Mahadev ka naam lekar Shaitan ko promote kar rahe ho? What an irony!!” — a reference to Ajay Devgn's earlier film Shaitaan, in which he both acted and produced, with R. Madhavan as the antagonist. Another user praised Akshay’s gesture, commenting, “Every superstar should learn from you. Perhaps Hrithik Roshan did this before, and now you are doing it. It takes a big heart to do this, which not everyone has.”

Both actors have been actively promoting their respective films. Akshay Kumar recently appeared for an interview with Bollywood Hungama alongside Vishnu Manchu, where the duo discussed Kannappa and shared insights on upcoming projects. Meanwhile, Kajol took part in a fan meet-and-greet event hosted by Bollywood Hungama as part of promotions for Maa.

With Kannappa and Maa releasing this Friday, June 27, audiences will witness a clash between two distinct cinematic offerings: one mythological action drama, and the horror mythological.

Diljit Dosanjh’s manager DEFENDS actor-singer amid Sardaar Ji 3 row: “Despite giving everything to his country, he is still seen as ‘the other’”

Amid the growing backlash over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, Diljit Dosanjh’s manager and CEO of Ripple Effect, Sonali Singh, has issued a strong statement in the singer-actor’s defense. Taking to social media, Singh addressed the ongoing criticism, calling it a “manufactured storm” against an artist who has consistently chosen love and unity over hate and division.

“Diljit Dosanjh Simply Carries on Choosing Love” The note opens with a pointed observation: “Despite giving everything to his country — his art, pride, voice, and platform — Diljit is still seen as 'the other' when it matters most.” Yet, the statement notes, he doesn’t retaliate. “He simply carries on choosing love.”

Sonali then highlights Diljit’s past efforts and sacrifices:

He cancelled a major U.S. concert when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) raised concerns, absorbing the financial loss and fighting a two-year legal battle abroad — quietly and respectfully. He stood by the producers of Sardaar Ji — not to protect himself but to support families who had invested their life savings into the project. He has worked on another film for two years, based on human rights icon Jaswant Singh Khalra, with no Pakistani cast member, which still struggles to find release. Diljit has consistently represented Indian culture on the global stage — from Coachella to Jimmy Fallon — with dignity, authenticity, and humility.

“A Manufactured Storm” In the second part of the statement, titled Always Choosing Love Over Hate, Singh directly responds to the criticism over Sardaar Ji 3. She clarifies that the film, which includes a Pakistani co-actor, was shot long before current political tensions escalated.

Calling it “yet another project where innocent families of the producers are involved,” she stresses that this is not a studio-backed commercial film but a passion project funded by personal savings. “It’s not a film backed by a giant corporate house that can absorb the blow of massive losses,” the note reads. “This is someone’s life’s earnings and it’s at risk of being wiped out entirely.” Respecting Sentiments Sonali emphasizes that Diljit is not releasing the film in India out of respect for national sentiment. “He honours the decisions of his own country even at a personal and professional cost,” she writes. Despite the financial setback and public scrutiny, Singh asserts that Diljit’s only concern is mitigating losses for the film’s team, not protecting his own image.

A post shared by Sonali (@sonalisingh)

“Where Does Someone Like Him Belong, Then?” The note closes with a reflection on the irony of Diljit’s public image — celebrated globally but frequently questioned at home. “Does anyone think this doesn’t break his heart?” Singh asks, pointing out how easily national pride turns into suspicion for artists from minority communities.

“This cycle must end,” the statement concludes. “Let us stop punishing our artists for being human first. All he has ever spoken is love.”

Esha Gupta breaks silence on fallout with Sajid Khan, DENIES #MeToo allegations against him: “I don’t like people abusing me”

Actress Esha Gupta, who has been away from the big screen for a while, continues to stay in the limelight through her candid interviews and social media presence. In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the Humshakals actress offered a rare insight into her professional fallout with filmmaker Sajid Khan, with whom she worked on the 2014 comedy.

Recalling the tense incident, Esha said, “I had a fight. Sajid Khan and I were not at all on the same page, and we ended up having a proper fight. It happened once, and after that, things were never the same. See, I don’t like people abusing me. You should always treat people the way you want them to treat you. It’s that simple. Unhone mujhe gaali di… phir maine bhi di (He abused me, so I abused him back).”

The disagreement, according to Esha, was so serious that she walked off the set. “I went home. I didn’t stay. I had also made up my mind to exit the film. But it was the producer who apologised first, even before Sajid did,” she added.

When pressed about the exact reason behind their conflict, the actress chose not to disclose details. However, the conversation shifted to the #MeToo allegations that emerged against Sajid Khan in 2018. Esha clarified her stance firmly, stating that she was never subjected to any sexual misconduct by the filmmaker.

“I’ve never said anything in relation to #MeToo about Sajid. In fact, when those allegations started coming out, someone even added my name to the list of people who accused him. I said, ‘No.’ Dekhiye, jahan jisne jo galti ki hai woh bolo (Look, whoever has made a mistake, call them out for that),” she said.

She continued, “Like I’m openly saying now that he abused me. But Sajid never tried any of those [sexual misconduct] things with me. So I will not say that about him.”

Diljit Dosanjh recalls Priyanka Chopra’s Met Gala gesture that “filled his heart”: “She came to me and said…”

Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, who made a notable debut at the Met Gala 2025, has opened up about his experience at the global fashion spectacle and shared a heartwarming anecdote involving Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Dosanjh, who is among the few Indian entertainers to have walked the prestigious Met Gala red carpet, took to social media shortly after the event to share behind-the-scenes glimpses. But in a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, the Chamkila actor reflected on his emotional moment with Priyanka Chopra at the venue.

“Thanks to Priyanka Chopra,” Diljit recalled. “Main jab gaya toh voh vahan thi already and Priyanka also came to me and said, ‘Diljit main idhar hi bethi hun, tereko kisi bhi cheez ki zarurat ho just say PC and main jaldi se aajaungi.’ Aur mera tabhi mann bhar aaya tha.” (Translation: “When I arrived, she was already there. Sardaar Ji 3 Release Update Amid Backlash On the professional front, Diljit is awaiting the release of Sardaar Ji 3, a Punjabi horror-comedy slated to premiere on June 27. Vedang Raina on bagging Imtiaz Ali’s next and sharing screen space with Naseeruddin Shah; “It’s a dream come true”

Finally, you’re moving ahead after Karan Johar’s Jigra? Yes, finally! It’s been a long wait, but it’s all been worth it. It’s a dream to be working with Imtiaz sir.

How did Imtiaz Ali come into the picture? I had a meeting with him a long time ago, after my debut series The Archies released. It was just a casual, friendly conversation. Then, almost a year or year-and-a-half later, we met again, and he discussed the idea for this story. I was very excited.

Have you seen Imtiaz Ali’s films? I’ve seen all of them, except his first — Socha Na Tha. Rockstar and Chamkila are probably my favourites. But Jab We Met, Tamasha — they’re all classics. He understands human emotions and dilemmas like no one else, and he presents them so poetically on screen.

Your debut was directed by Zoya Akhtar, your second is a Karan Johar production, and now Imtiaz Ali... Are you pleased with your progress so far? Yes. I’m keeping my head down and working hard. I understand the responsibility that comes with being part of an Imtiaz Ali film — especially in an ensemble of this calibre. I take it upon myself to do justice to the role and deliver, no excuses. I have a fire in me, and I’m motivated like never before.

Your co-star in Imtiaz Ali’s film is Naseeruddin Shah. Isn’t that daunting? Daunting and exciting. I’ve watched hours of Naseer Saab’s lectures on the craft of acting. I took notes as a young actor trying to understand the process — I still have those notes! I told him that the first time I met him. It’s truly an honour.

Are you prepping for the film already? Prep has begun to some degree. We’ve had some look tests. Shooting should start in August.

“Sitaare Zameen Par will make you laugh, cry and clap”: Mahesh Babu pens heartfelt review for Aamir Khan starrer

The admiration for Aamir Khan’s latest release, Sitaare Zameen Par, continues to pour in from across the film industry. Actor Mahesh Babu is the latest to join the growing list of voices hailing the film, calling it a deeply moving experience.

Taking to social media, Mahesh wrote, “#SitaareZameenPar… Shines so bright and how… It’ll make you laugh, cry and clap!! Like all Aamir Khan’s classics, you’ll walk out with a big smile on your face…”

Mahesh’s words resonate with the sentiment shared earlier by veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who had tweeted after the film’s strong box office showing on Day 2: “So happy to learn about the record leap that Sitaare Zameen Par has taken at the box office on the second day. Who says good films have no takers in the audience. Congratulations to Aamir Khan and his team.”

Speaking of the film, Sitaare Zameen Par, a film that serves as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par (2007), is directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The social-comedy film takes forward Aamir’s legacy of combining storytelling with social sensitivity.

Khan is paired opposite Genelia Deshmukh and is supported by a remarkable ensemble cast that includes Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal. But the heart of the film lies in its introduction of ten debutant actors with intellectual disabilities: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Ashish Pendse, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar, and Aayush Bhansali.

Javed Akhtar congratulates Aamir Khan, applauds box office leap of Sitaare Zameen Par: “Who says good films have no takers in the audience”

There’s no denying the deep-rooted mutual respect between veteran lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar and actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan. Their bond, built over decades of creative synergy and shared cinematic values, was once again on display when Akhtar took to social media to congratulate Khan on the strong box office performance of his latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par.

“So happy to learn about the record leap that Sitaare Zameen Par has taken at the box office on the second day. Who says good films have no takers in the audience? Congratulations to Aamir Khan and his team,” tweeted Akhtar, applauding the film’s growing momentum among audiences.

Earlier this year in March, PVR INOX announced a special film festival titled Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar, celebrating the superstar’s illustrious contribution to Indian cinema ahead of his 60th birthday on March 14, 2025. The trailer launch event for the festival was graced by none other than Javed Akhtar, further underlining the warmth and admiration shared between the two.

Their long-standing association also features moments of creative disagreement, which both have acknowledged with grace and humour. In a recent episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Aamir recalled how Javed Akhtar had once advised him against making Lagaan. When asked if Javed Akhtar had discouraged the project, Aamir responded: "Haan, unhone aisa kaha tha. Lekin ye unka badappan hai ki unhone na sirf is baat ko maana, balki kain jagah is kisse ko sunaya bhi."

He added that Akhtar was skeptical about a film set in a village with a hero in a dhoti and songs with themes reminiscent of the Ramayana. According to Akhtar, back then, Lagaan had "all the qualities of a flop film." But history proved otherwise — Lagaan not only became a box office success but also a landmark in Indian cinema, both commercially and critically.

Coming back to Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, it was released on June 20. The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh.

Amitabh Bachchan pens emotional tribute to Abhishek Bachchan: “They that shall be my inheritors, shall be my sons”

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has penned an emotional tribute to his son Abhishek Bachchan following the release of the trailer for his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata. In a deeply personal note shared on his blog, Big B reflected on legacy, courage, and the essence of true inheritance, quoting his father, the iconic poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

“मेरे बेटे, बेटे होने से मेरे उत्तराधिकारी नहीं हींगें ; जो मेरे उत्तराधिकारी होंगे वो मेरे बेटे होंगे (My sons, just because you are my sons shall not be my inheritors; they that shall be my inheritors, shall be my sons)”

Calling Kaalidhar Laapata a significant milestone, Amitabh praised Abhishek’s unwavering commitment to his craft, commending his fearless choices as an actor. “Each role he has accepted and played has been with immense dedication. He has ever delivered the character to perfection. His choice of films and roles has guided him to try something different.”

T 5418 - … and there is immense admiration for Abhishek .. “मेरे बेटे, बेटे होने से मेरे उत्तराधिकारी नहीं होंगे ; जो मेरे उत्तराधिकारी होंगे वो मेरे बेटे होंगे” ~हरिवंश राय बच्चन my sons just because you are my sons shall not be my inheritors .. they that shall be my… pic.twitter.com/4hOyjOwczY — Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) June 21, 2025

The trailer for Kaalidhar Laapata, which dropped recently, features Abhishek Bachchan as a middle-aged man grappling with memory loss and the emotional aftermath of abandonment. The powerful premise has already struck a chord with audiences and now carries the emotional weight of Amitabh’s public endorsement.

Recalling a personal moment from his youth, Amitabh quoted a profound message written in his autograph book by celebrated poet Shri Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, “Success comes to those who dare and act.” “‘Act’ not in reference to acting on stage or film but in life — to dare and to act.” “Abhishek has ever done that. He has dared to take on films and characters that challenged him. And he 'acted’. He dared to act and be recognised.”

The tribute ends with a powerful declaration from a father to his son: “My admiration to my inheritor, my Son.”

Amitabh also shared the trailer on his social media, writing: “My prayers Abhishek… your ability to choose different roles and films and to immerse yourself in them… and succeed… a very rare quality. Love and blessings.”

Salman Khan opens up about severe health struggles on The Great Indian Kapil Show

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has once again sparked headlines — this time not for his trademark wit or upcoming releases, but for an honest revelation about his ongoing health battles. Appearing on The Great Indian Kapil Show, the actor candidly spoke about the physical toll years of action cinema have taken on him, revealing a series of serious medical conditions he continues to work through.

In a moment that took fans and even host Kapil Sharma by surprise, Salman Khan said, “So hum ye jitni bhi haddiyan tudva rahe hai, pasliyan toot gayi, trigeminal neuralgia tha uske bawajud kaam kare, aneurysm hai brain mein uske bawajud kaam kar rahe hai, AV malformations hai, uske bawajud chal rahe hai… Action, yaha se kudna, waha se girna, chalne ko nahi ho raha, dance kar rahe hai… ye sab chal raha hai… aur jaha unka mood satka, woh aadha humara le kar chala gaya. (We’ve been breaking bones, my ribs are fractured, I had trigeminal neuralgia but kept working, I have a brain aneurysm and yet continue, I have AV malformations and I’m still going… Action scenes, jumping from here, falling there — even when I can’t walk, I dance… All of this is happening — and the day my mood snapped, it took half of me with it)”

The revelation gave fans a glimpse into the immense physical hardship Salman has endured while continuing to work on high-octane films, often packed with action and dance sequences. Despite the gravity of his conditions — including trigeminal neuralgia (a chronic pain condition), brain aneurysm, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) — the actor emphasized his commitment to his craft.

This isn't the first time Salman’s candid moments on the show have gone viral. As reported earlier by Bollywood Hungama, the actor previously made headlines for his tongue-in-cheek comments on marriage and divorce, saying: “Shaadi aur divorce dono hi nahi hue... inke wajah se kaafi paise bach gaye (I am neither married nor divorced, so saved a lot of money there).”

With each appearance, Salman Khan continues to balance humour, vulnerability, and stardom — making his episodes on The Great Indian Kapil Show a trending staple for fans and viewers alike.

Raanjhanaa fan screening: Aanand L Rai explains how he convinced CBFC members to retain abuses: “Hum phone pe gaaliyaan discuss kar rahe the! I told them, ‘Yeh gaali hum teen baar rakh dete hai. Itne c-word important nahin hai. Yeh do rakh lo’!”

The fan screening of Raanjhanaa (2013) was held at a multiplex in Mumbai on the occasion of its 12th anniversary by DIY Solutions and was attended by the film’s team – actors Dhanush and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, then-child-actor Naman Jain, director Aanand L Rai, writer Himanshu Sharma and lyricist Irshad Kamil. Sonam Kapoor couldn’t make it and the team kept a picture of her on the seat. The event began with the screening of the film after which stand-up comic Devansh Singh entertained the crowd. Laksh Maheshwari, then, in his trademark style narrated the film’s story and also hosted the talk. Amid news of the amusing and unjustified cuts asked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the latest release, the Aamir Khan-starrer Sitaare Zameen Par, the talk veered towards the situation 12 years ago. Was Raanjhanaa also censored? If yes, then how much? After all, we can see that certain abuses were retained but, in some scenes, the cuss words were beeped.

Aanand L Rai explained, “Now, the intention with which you make is of paramount importance. I can’t reveal the discussion I had with the Censor Board at that time. Hum phone pe gaaliyaan discuss kar rahe the! There was even a lady in their team. We were openly discussing, ‘Yeh gaali hum teen baar rakh dete hai. Itne c-word important nahin hai. Yeh do rakh lo’!”

He continued, “I realized that there was a reason behind those abuses. Hence, I was able to freely mention those words without hesitation in front of them. Even today, if I apply such a film to the Censor Board aur agar meri neeyat saaf hai, I am sure Raanjhanaa would have been cleared in the same way!”

Meanwhile, a female fan expressed regret over the fact that the character of Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) got a raw deal. She loved Kundan (Dhanush) with all her heart and ideally, they both should have ended up together. She asked Aanand L Rai, “Why did you do this to Bindiya?” The filmmaker patiently heard her and answered her question by saying, “Taaki aapko woh character yaad rahein!” The host also asked the audience, at this point, to cheer for Swara for her stupendous performance along with that of Abhay Deol.

Randeep Hooda BREAKS silence on marrying Lin Laishram amid tension in Manipur: “As soon as our pheras finished, we could hear HUNDREDS of AK-47s going off. Lin’s brother told me, ‘Iss mahaul mein ek jaat hi aake yahaan shaadi kar sakta hai’”

Randeep Hooda had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day on various aspects of his life and career. He opened up like never before about his marriage with Lin Laishram on November 29, 2023, amid tensions in Manipur.

Randeep began by saying, “We first met in Motley actually during the play, Arms And The Man. She had just come back from New York and met Naseer bhai (Naseeruddin Shah). She started helping around as a part of the crew. We kept meeting over the years. During the lockdown, we were held up together, leading to (our marriage).”

He then said, “My marriage itself was a big drama. There was a problem going on in Manipur. But I was like, ladki ki ghar shaadi nahin ki toh phir kya shaadi hui? My friend, Brigadier Sangwan, of the Assam Rifles, was the CO in Manipur. I called him and he told me, ‘Aa ja, main karata hoon shaadi’! 10-12 of us went there. We had no idea about the ceremony. She did show me videos of it but I was busy editing Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (2024). I told her, ‘Wow, what a ceremony’ but in reality, I had never watched the video!”

Randeep continued, “We went to her house and the lunch was fully vegetarian! A lot of Meiteis are Vaishnavs and hence, the veg meal. Before lunch, we went to the temple of the polo god, Marjing. And I anyway play polo (smiles). I wore a dhoti and was handed a small statue of the horse, a polo stick and a ball. I had carried it while climbing up the steps leading to the temple. There’s also a tribal God and a Hindu God. I told Lin, ‘Let’s do (all the ceremonies)’. My friends were saying, ‘Bhai, shaadi mein laaya hai ya teerth yatra mein?’! (laughs)!”

Randeep Hooda further stated, “Due to security reasons, we stayed in the Army Camp. As for the wedding ceremony, I had a helper with me, who’s like a tutor to the groom. Once you put on the turban, you cannot tilt your head at all. They gave me a bowl, an umbrella and a couple of other things. You are supposed to be very dignified as the groom is considered to be God. They wrap a cloth around you and once you are in the mandap, you can’t even move. If my nose is itching, the helper will scratch it for me! If I tilt down, he’ll correct me. For two hours, I remained that way. I asked him, ‘What’s the bowl for?’. He said, ‘That is given in case you want to pee since you can’t move out of the place’!”

Randeep added, “Lin also had a tutor. She got a lot of scolding (laughs). She was not supposed to smile and yet she did. The messengers sternly told her, ‘Stop smiling’. She was wearing so much gold. I joked, ‘Chalo, ek picture toh yehi ban gayi’! My mother was sitting outside the mandap. She was crying and laughing due to the whole experience.”

Randeep also touched upon the fact that the situation was not normal in Manipur, “It was a civil war. As soon as our pheras finished, we could hear hundreds of AK-47s going off! Lin’s brother told me later, ‘Iss mahaul mein ek jaat hi aake yahaan shaadi kar sakta hai’! We also went to the Relief Camps after the wedding. So, that and the marriage brought a lot of cheer to the place.”

He also remarked that both their states have something in common, “Both Haryana and Manipur have produced great sportspersons, especially boxers.”

Randeep Hooda vs Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Suniel Shetty, Naseeruddin Shah – the SHELVED film of Ram Gopal Varma that never got made; Randeep spills the beans: “I was to play the super-villain with the whole film industry on the other side”

Randeep Hooda had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day on various aspects of his life and career. At the very beginning, he spoke about what happened after he worked on his debut film, Monsoon Wedding (2001) and his major film as a lead actor, D (2005).

Randeep began by saying, “Ram Gopal Varma had cast me in a movie called Ek. I was to play the super-villain with the whole film industry on the other side. It was about a man who came to Mumbai and set off bombs in the city, leading to exodus. The film never got made.”

When asked who was playing the good guys, he replied, “It had Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Suniel Shetty, Naseeruddin Shah and other popular actors of that time. One day, I asked him, ‘Is this film happening?’. He said, ‘No, it’s not. But you don’t do any other movie. I’ll find a role for you and launch you’. I was on a three-year salary, like a studio system. I was paid for not doing any other work!”

Randeep revealed, “I asked him, ‘How will I pay my bills?’. He asked, ‘How much is your expense a month?’. Maine badha-chadha ke bola, ‘Rs. 35,000’. He said, ‘Done’. Then I told myself, ‘Usse accha pachaas (Rs. 50,000) maang leta’ (laughs)! On the first of every month, I would turn up at his office and collect my cheque to do nothing!”

Ram Gopal Varma offered him some films made under his banner but they never materialized. Randeep said, “Shimit Amin had come to me and offered the rookie cop’s role in Ab Tak Chhappan (2004). We met at Barista in Versova. I told Shimit, ‘I’d rather do Nana Patekar’s role’!”

Randeep continued, “One day, I was summoned by Ramu. He said, ‘T-shirt utaaro’. I always had a good physique and I removed my T-shirt. I also threw a lot of attitude. I told my then-girlfriend about it. She scolded me and said, ‘You should be more polite’. So, the next day, I met Ramu again and was all smiles and without attitude. Ramu remarked, ‘I liked you more last time’! I immediately changed myself.”

He further said, “I got cast in many films like Ek Hasina Thi (2004), Naach (2004) etc. Ramu would offer me a role and told me to meet him the next day (to discuss the role more). I couldn’t sleep the whole night (in excitement). The next day, early in the morning, he would tell me (that I was no longer doing that part)! This stop-start thing happened many times with Ramu (laughs).”

Randeep then exulted, “Finally, Vishram Sawant offered me D. He was also a good photographer. He did a photoshoot with me. He was impressed with Satya (1998). When Ramu saw my pictures, he said, ‘Let’s make D, a prequel to Company (2002).’”

EXCLUSIVE: Sandeepa Dhar on World Yoga Day, “Yoga teaches us what we often forget in life”

On the occasion of World Yoga Day today, actress Sandeepa Dhar’s words strike a chord with many who turn to yoga not just for physical fitness, but for inner clarity. She said exclusively, “Yoga teaches us what we often forget in life. To be fully present. To feel every breath. To inhale with awareness. To exhale with intent.” These words highlight a core truth — that yoga, at its heart, is about mindful living.

In an age where hurried routines and constant notifications dominate daily life, yoga becomes a grounding force. More than a sequence of postures, it is a practice of presence. The emphasis on breath — the most basic yet often overlooked element of life — is central to this philosophy. Sandeepa added, “When I am immersed in my Yoga routine, every fibre of my being is at peace.” What the actress has said resonates with the experience of countless practitioners. It speaks to the sense of stillness and alignment that yoga can offer, even amidst life’s chaos. World Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, serves as a global reminder of the power of this practice — not as a trend, but as a timeless tool for balance. Whether you're on a mat in a city studio or stretching in your living room, the invitation remains the same: to pause, breathe, and return to yourself. On the work front, Sandeepa will next be seen in the movie Firrkie. Along with her, it also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, Kay Kay Menon and Karan Singh Grover. EXCLUSIVE: Mithoon opens up on debuting as a composer at 19 with Zeher; talks about upcoming projects, “My Saiyaara song conveys protagonist's feelings for his beloved...have composed Border 2's ENTIRE score”; CONFIRMS Anil Sharma’s next and an EXCITING World Tour

Back in 2005, the songs of Zeher became a rage, especially ‘Woh Lamhe Who Baatein’. It was composed by Mithoon, then just 19. Now, he has completed more than 20 years and has achieved dizzying heights with his discography. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the music composer talked about his journey, his next Saiyaara and a lot more.

Congrats on completing 20 years as a music composer. How do you feel about your 2-decade journey in the industry? Yes, it has been 20 years but the feeling more or less has been the same. Every day, every year is a blessing and I’m grateful. I look back on the journey with a sense of gratitude since I could sustain and continue doing what I set off to.

You mentioned that you were just 19 when you recorded the songs of Zeher. How did that happen and how did you meet Mohit Suri? Yes, that’s right. I was only 19 and in college. Mr Mukesh Bhatt was in a meeting with my father, Mr Naresh Sharma and they were discussing a project. Mohit was equally young and my father felt that the project needed a fresher, younger perspective and he suggested my name. Mr Bhatt readily agreed to meet me. That's how we all connected and the journey began.

You have had a long association with Mohit Suri and you have also composed for Saiyaara. What can we expect from it? Mohit and I started our careers together and it’s been a long fruitful association consistently. I feel he understands the space a composer needs to create and he is also equally very clear about what he is seeking. In Saiyaara, the protagonist is a musician and the song I've created conveys his feelings for his beloved.

How many songs have you composed in Saiyaara? There is one song and an unplugged version of the same.

You recently announced 'Master Of Melody'. What is it all about? Master of Melody is an EP that is being presented by T Series. One song is already out and we have plans to put out more. It's exciting because it allows me to go beyond the constraints of a script or a character and explore.

You have formed a lovely association with Anil Sharma and the songs of Vanvaas (2024) were lovely. Though the songs got good viewership, they didn't become chartbusters that they deserved to be. Does it sadden you when genuine works don't get their due? I'm glad you liked the music of Vanvaas. I genuinely feel that the longevity of music in a movie outlives the movie. In fact, it is the music that generates curiosity in the first instance. But there are countless examples when a movie has not done well but the music has been loved. So, one has to accept it and move on. And that is true for everyone in the fraternity.

The concert trend has picked up big time. Many of your contemporaries are taking all-India and even global tours. Do you have any such plans? Over the last couple of years post-Covid, I decided to start performing live very actively. With a few of my close aides, I designed a brand-new set and we have been on the road performing across the country from metro cities to the hinterlands and the response has been superlative. My management is in talks with one of the world's most prominent touring companies to curate a world tour. We shall announce it once things are firmed up.

Besides Saiyaara, what are your other forthcoming projects? I'm working on Border 2 where I'm doing the entire score. There is also Anil Sharma's next and a couple of others that are ready to be announced shortly.

In these 20 years, you have worked with several prominent filmmakers. Is there any filmmaker that you haven't worked with and desire to collaborate with? I've enjoyed working with all the filmmakers over the past several years and I'm always open to working with more, whether they are established or freshers. I have never had prejudice in that sense.

You have not worked with the 3 Khans (Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan) yet. Do you wish to collaborate with them and is there any possibility of it? I did mention this in a recent podcast of mine too that I have no barriers or reservations and that I'm quite open to the possibility of working with either or all 3 of the Khans if the opportunity presents itself.

Karisma Kapoor attends ex-husband Sunjay Kapur’s funeral in Delhi with her children

Actress Karisma Kapoor was seen attending the funeral of her former husband, industrialist Sunjay Kapur, in New Delhi on Thursday, June 19. A video from the crematorium has surfaced online, showing the actress paying her final respects, visibly sombre and dressed in a traditional white salwar suit, in keeping with funeral customs. Karisma was accompanied by her children, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. Kareena Kapoor Khan, and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan, travelled to Delhi to support the family.

Sunjay Kapur, 52, passed away earlier this week in England after reportedly suffering a fatal heart attack during a polo match. According to media reports, the heart attack was triggered by a severe allergic reaction after he accidentally swallowed a bee mid-game. Despite receiving immediate medical assistance, the reaction proved fatal.

In a poignant twist, Sunjay had posted a condolence message on social media just hours before his own sudden demise. Reacting to the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, he had expressed his sorrow on X (formerly Twitter). His recent posts also included motivational quotes, one of which read, “Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.”

Sunjay Kapur was previously married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, with whom he separated in 2003. That same year, he married Karisma Kapoor. The couple’s marriage lasted over a decade, and they became parents to two children, Samaira and Kiaan. However, the relationship turned turbulent, leading to a prolonged legal battle. The two parted ways in 2014, and their divorce was finalised in 2016. Karisma was granted custody of the children, while Sunjay retained visitation rights.

EXCLUSIVE: Akshay Kumar says he’s “keeping fingers crossed” for Hera Pheri 3 after Paresh Rawal’s abrupt exit

As the buzz around Hera Pheri 3 continues to stir public curiosity, Akshay Kumar has finally shared a cryptic update on the much-awaited third installment of the iconic comedy franchise. While promoting his upcoming film Kannappa in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Akshay was briefly asked about the status of Hera Pheri 3 following co-star Paresh Rawal’s recent exit. His response—"I am keeping my fingers and legs crossed"—might have been delivered with characteristic wit, but it also reflects the uncertainty looming over the project.

Timeline of Key Events of Paresh Rawal’s exit and Hera Pheri 3 shoot May 2025 – Paresh Rawal confirms exit

Rawal revealed he’d stepped away from Hera Pheri 3, citing personal discomfort rather than creative differences. His departure came as a surprise to fans and the film’s team, as he’d already participated in a promotional shoot with Akshay and Suniel Shetty.

I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences. I REITERATE THAT THERE ARE NO CREATIVE DISAGREEMENT WITH THE FILM MAKER . I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr. Priyadarshan the film director. — Paresh Rawal (@SirPareshRawal) May 18, 2025

Late May – Legal action begins

Akshay’s production banner, Cape of Good Films, served Rawal with a Rs 25 crore lawsuit, alleging contract breach and losses due to cast and crew preparation costs.

Paresh returns advances

To mitigate the issue, Rawal reportedly returned a Rs 11 lakh advance plus 15% annual interest, asserting no formal binding contract existed. His lawyer contended the project lacked a finalized script and clear commitment.

Akshay defends Paresh

At the Housefull 5 trailer launch, Akshay expressed loyalty to Rawal and dismissed harsh words like “foolish” used against him, calling the matter serious and best suited for legal channels.

EXCLUSIVE: Akshay Kumar recalls girls hiding faces, tipsy fan encounter, and more during his impromptu visit to theatre screening Housefull 5; says, “Everyone has a backstory”

Akshay Kumar recently added a quirky twist to his routine while promoting his latest comedy film Housefull 5. In a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, the actor opened up about going incognito outside a theatre to interact directly with moviegoers, and his amusing observations from the outing.

The actor explained that the plan wasn’t premeditated. “I was just passing by. I had a mask with me. So I just went there for fun,” said Akshay, describing how his spontaneous decision led him to the venue. Donning a mask to keep his identity hidden, Akshay was able to mingle with audiences and see their unfiltered reactions to Housefull 5.

He also used the opportunity to reflect on the work of on-ground entertainment journalists and field reporters. “No one really stops to give their review. But the ones who do are very enthusiastic. They know their reviews will be made public, so they speak very energetically,” he said, acknowledging how some people eagerly step up to give their opinions while others shy away.

Recounting his humorous experience further, Akshay noted how a few young women were trying to avoid being seen. “There were two to four girls. I think they didn’t want their families to know they had come to watch the film. So some were even covering their faces while leaving,” he laughed. “Everyone has a backstory. When I see that, I start imagining what their story might be.”

The actor also mentioned a particularly amusing encounter with a young man. “Then there was this one guy I spoke to. I think he was drunk—I’m not sure. But he was speaking in such a way. So it was funny.”

In the same interview, Akshay Kumar also addressed the possibility of Hera Pheri 3 moving forward after Paresh Rawal's abrupt exit from the film. While choosing to remain tight-lipped about the developments, he remarked, "I’m keeping my fingers and legs crossed."

Opinion: 71 minutes. That’s all it took for Aamir Khan to silence years of trolling - no noise, just proof of his love for India

The weekend gone by was a treat for fans of Aamir Khan. He appeared on one of the oldest and most popular TV chat shows, Aap Ki Adalat. The manner in which he was grilled by host Rajat Sharma and the way he answered were seen to be believed.

For those who are unaware, the 71-minute-long episode began with the allegation that he is unpatriotic. He made a valid point about his tweet on Operation Sindoor and even clarified on meeting with the Turkey President. He cleverly drew parallels with the government helping the Asian country during the earthquake in good faith before the Pahalgam attack and hence, he should also be spared of criticism. He didn’t mince words over the ‘Boycott Turkey’ moment and agreed that Indians should not visit the country.

He further proved his patriotism by revealing that Sarfarosh (1999) was the first fictional movie to mention Pakistan and expose its role in cross-border terrorism. He added, “In Parliament, if Lal Krishna Advani can mention Pakistan and ISI, then why not us?”. He also confessed that he asked Disney not to release Dangal (2016) in Pakistan if the Censor Board there removed the scene of the Indian National Flag and Indian National Anthem.

He then revealed that he spent nearly 8 days in Kargil and met the jawans. He thundered, “I don’t consider the terrorists as Muslims”. He also gave a valid answer when asked about being a heretic and PK (2014) being an ‘anti-Hindu movie’. The topic naturally veered towards Aamir indulging in ‘Love Jihad’. Here, Aamir did a checkmate as he remarked that both his sisters and also daughter Ira have married Hindu men. But what about his children bearing Muslim names? He had an answer for it too, “My views named them. Ira is a short form of Irawati”. As for his youngest son Azad, he asked, “Haven’t you guys heard of Chandrashekhar Azad?”. He also added that Kiran Rao chose the name and it was a tribute to their granduncle, freedom fighter Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.

Aamir Khan also brought to the notice of the audience that he made Secret Superstar (2017), which was about a dysfunctional Muslim family and hence him being anti-Hindu is a pointless argument. He continued that he lost money on the TV show Satyamev Jayate. He asked, “I did Satyamev Jayate, I work in social films and I started the Paani Foundation. Tell me, which other actor is doing something of this sort right now?”

What Aamir Khan managed to do with this interview is unthinkable. He was subjected to several uncomfortable questions and he boldly took on them. We are living in times when most of the popular actors are too scared to open their mouths on anything that might be perceived as controversial. The team of the star sometimes requests the journalists not to ask certain questions. Another new trend is that the team of the actor or the film/show shoot the interview themselves. They then edit out anything that they feel can cause trouble and share the footage with the interviewer!

In such times, Aamir Khan chose to have none of these do’s and don’ts. He allowed all kinds of questioning and he didn’t shy away from answering them. At one point, he even stated, “I don’t go around talking about (the good work he has done). I am opening up today as I was asked about it.” By doing so, he set a new example for other actors and most importantly, he busted many myths surrounding him. Many in the society have been subjected to hate messages about him for nearly a decade and naturally, they got brainwashed. But the Aap Ki Adalat interview has been an eye-opener for them.

Yet, there’s a section of trolls who refuse to see the reality. They have probably got so used to hating Aamir that they are still finding faults in his comments. They chose to completely ignore his good deeds and indulge in shameless criticism, to satisfy their subscribers or to earn money via engagement farming. It's difficult to ascertain what it will take for him to convince them that he’s indeed a true Indian. On the other hand, many of his fans were heartbroken to see that Aamir had to prove his patriotism, despite doing so much for the society and country at large. Here’s hoping better sense prevails and notwithstanding the brickbats from both sides, Aamir continues to make meaningful-yet-entertaining cinema and work for the betterment of the society.

Ananya Panday wraps up Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri schedule; groves on 'Dheeme Dheeme' with co-star Kartik Aaryan in BTS video, watch

On June 18, actor Kartik Aaryan dropped a video lighting up social media — this time, celebrating co-star Ananya Panday’s schedule wrap for Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri with a fun, full-of-josh dance on 'Dheeme Dheeme'. The video captures the duo in high spirits as they groove to the chartbuster, bringing back the Pati Patni Aur Woh nostalgia but with a whole new film in play.

With his signature charm and spontaneity, Kartik captioned the video: "Apni Ananya ka schedule wrap ho Aur hum Dheeme Dheeme par dance na karein, aisa kaise ho sakta hai @ananyapanday#TuMeriMainTeraMainTeraTuMeri."

For the unversed, earlier this month, Dharma Productions confirmed Ananya as the female lead of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. The official announcement was made days after Bollywood Hungama reported that the two actresses leading the race were Ananya Panday and Sharvari, and after fighting it till the end, it's Ananya Panday who has bagged the film. A well-placed industry source told us, "Kartik and Karan were looking for an actress with strong pull in the youth and after contemplating on the names, they have locked Ananya to play the female lead. Ananya and Kartik are a successful pair, and this would extend their partnership further."

Directed by Sameer Vidwans, the film will be released on Valentine's Day 2026. Reportedly, Karan Johar is planning a Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani crossover for the Kartik Aaryan-starrer. In January this year, Mid-Day reported that KJo is contemplating introducing characters from his 2013 blockbuster YJHD into this film. The report suggested stars Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin could reprise their iconic roles in special appearances. However, the production banner has neither confirmed nor denied the speculation, as of now.

Ali Fazal reflects on sleepless nights and joyful chaos after welcoming daughter Zuneyra; says, “Becoming a parent has completely redefined what love means”

Ali Fazal is set to showcase romance on screen in Metro... In Dino, but off screen, love plays out in the small, everyday moments of his life. Since the arrival of his daughter, Zuneyra Ida Fazal, the actor has been experiencing love in new and deeper ways. His relationship with his wife, actor Richa Chadha, has also evolved as they embrace parenthood together. “You’ll often catch me playfully flirting with my wife or looking for little chances to sneak out together,” he shares with a smile. “Once our daughter is asleep, we’ll say, ‘Let’s go grab a bite.’ Or some mornings, we just sit with our coffees and talk.”

Fazal and Chadha welcomed their daughter Zuneyra in July last year, and since then, their lives have been a whirlwind of change. From sleepless nights filled with burping and diaper duties to moments of pure joy and exhaustion, Fazal admits that fatherhood has transformed him. “Becoming a parent has completely redefined what love means,” he shared, noting that he was quite anxious during the early months after Zuneyra’s birth. “I think I read every parenting book out there. Those first few months were filled with worry, but things are starting to settle now,” he added

Despite settling into fatherhood, Fazal’s concerns haven’t entirely faded. He often reflects on the kind of world his daughter is growing up in. “What kind of future are we leaving for her? That thought scares me,” he admited. As an artist, he feels a deep sense of responsibility, especially when it comes to the legacy of cinema. “The films we make today will be watched decades from now. People might look back and say, ‘You lived through that time—did you document it? No? Why not?’ These are the things that trouble both Richa and me,” he shared.

As both an actor and producer, Fazal is committed to creating meaningful cinema while also being an outspoken voice on social issues. However, his Candor has come with its challenges. “Being an opinionated artist in this industry isn’t easy. I’ve likely lost opportunities because of it, but I have no regrets,” he said. Still, he acknowledges that voicing dissent isn’t always about making noise. Instead, he sees cinema as a powerful tool for expression. “We’ll tell all kinds of stories, but we have to be strategic. We can’t keep waiting for the perfect moment—often, the most powerful art is born in times of crisis. The key is figuring out how to say what we want, cleverly and effectively.”

Tahira Kashyap opens up about her financial struggles while supporting the household after marriage: “My bank balance was zero”

Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap got married at the age of 24, before Ayushmann had entered the film industry and while Tahira was just starting her professional journey. Although they had been in a relationship for several years, adjusting to life in Mumbai as newlyweds took some time. In a recent interview, Tahira revealed that after their move to the city, she ended up spending all her savings, as she was solely responsible for buying groceries for the entire first year. During this period, Ayushmann had begun working as a VJ, but he remained unaware that Tahira was covering all the household expenses and never offered to contribute financially.

In a conversation with Official People of India, reportedly recorded a few months ago, Tahira Kashyap opened up about moving to Mumbai with Ayushmann Khurrana after their 2008 marriage. She mentioned that she had been financially independent and had savings from years of working, even though a portion had gone toward their wedding expenses. “I had spent some money on my wedding but I had my own savings. But I didn’t have a job in Mumbai. We had just gotten married and I was still applying for jobs,” she said. Tahira also revealed that Ayushmann was unaware she was solely using her savings to buy groceries for the household.

Tahira recalled, “This boy did not understand how were we getting the food, like how were we buying all of these vegetables, fruits. My bank balance was depleting. I had never asked anyone for money, even my parents. I had always been financially independent but now everything went for a toss because it had been a year and my bank balance was zero.”

Tahira Kashyap remembered a moment when Ayushmann Khurrana asked her why she hadn’t brought any mangoes, which was the tipping point for her. “I was so upset because he hadn’t noticed that I hadn’t eaten mangoes for two days just so he could have them. When he asked, ‘What’s the problem?’ I broke down and started crying. I asked him, ‘How do you think we’ve been buying groceries?’ He responded, ‘Oh yeah.’ I told him, ‘My bank balance is zero. It’s been 7-8 months, I’m still looking for jobs, and we’ve been spending only my savings.’ That’s when he realized and asked, ‘Why didn’t you ask me for money?’ I replied, ‘Because I can’t. You’re supposed to be sharing the grocery expenses with me.’ By then, he had started his career as a VJ,” she shared.

In April, Tahira revealed that her cancer had returned seven years after she was first diagnosed. She has been regularly updating her followers about her health on social media.
