Ishita Dutta gets hospitalised alongside son Vayu; actress reveals health scare after recent birth of second child

Actress Ishita Dutta has shared a deeply personal and emotional update with fans, revealing that she and her firstborn, Vayu, were both recently hospitalised. The actress, who welcomed her second child—a daughter named Veda—with husband and actor Vatsal Sheth in June this year, posted a heart-wrenching photo on social media showing both her and little Vayu’s hands bandaged with IV drips.

In her caption, Ishita wrote, "It's been a really tough month... At a time when I was supposed to be with my newborn, I was making hospital rounds instead. Thankfully, both Vaayu and I are doing much better now." While the actress did not reveal the exact cause of the hospitalisation, her post drew an outpouring of love and concern from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Many praised her strength in dealing with the emotional and physical toll of being ill while also caring for a newborn.

The Drishyam star further addressed the noticeable change in her appearance in recent weeks, especially regarding her weight loss. “A lot of you have been asking me about my weight loss—it wasn't deliberate, just a result of being unwell,” she clarified, quashing speculation about postpartum body changes being a conscious effort.

Ishita and Vatsal, one of television’s most adored couples, became parents to their son Vayu in 2023. Their family grew further in June 2025 with the birth of their daughter, Veda. Fans had celebrated the news of the couple embracing parenthood for the second time, but this latest update brought to light the unexpected challenges the new mom had been silently enduring.

Despite the ordeal, Ishita’s tone remained hopeful, and her message reassured fans that both she and Vayu are now on the road to recovery. The photo she shared served as a quiet testament to her resilience—a mother braving through sickness, separation, and healing, all while navigating the joys and struggles of early motherhood.

With her post now trending, many fans are lauding Ishita for her honesty and strength and sending warm wishes to the entire Sheth-Dutta family.

And it does come… there’s a very irritating thing that people say to you when you’re alone, which is, when it’s the right time, it will come to you. And you get very irritated with it… Now, I think about it in retrospect. It’s actually true.” Tara concluded with a statement that resonated with many romantics and added, “The universe believes that I’m deserving of that love.”

Archana Puran Singh highlights Kapil Sharma’s challenging journey and the emotional roots of his comedy: “He was gifted with the rare talent to make the world laugh”

In her new vlog on YouTube, actor and television personality Archana Puran Singh reflected on Kapil Sharma’s early life struggles and the emotional depth behind his humor. Joined by her husband Parmeet Sethi and their sons Aaryamann and Ayushmaan, Archana visited music composer Yashraj Mukhate at his home, where candid conversations revealed the inspiration behind one of India’s most celebrated comedians.

When Yashraj expressed his admiration for Kapil, saying he still finds him “underrated,” Archana replied, “That’s so sweet. Main Kapil ko bolungi. He is supremely talented and has an amazing presence of mind. He still surprises me with his punches. I have seen him performing from the last15 years. Usmein bahut depth hai; itna humour aa hi nahi sakta agar aapmein depth na ho. Music and art kuch nahi aa sakta agar aap mein depth na ho toh.”

She elaborated, “If you can make someone laugh, it means there’s a lot of pain inside you. Kapil has witnessed immense struggle—his childhood was marked by poverty, and he lost his father to cancer. Despite all this, he was gifted with the rare talent to make the world laugh.” Yashraj added by saying, “His skill is truly unmatched.”

Addressing long-standing criticism about her on‑camera laughter, Archana clarified that earlier laughter on shows like Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma Show was often artificially inserted by editors, “When people say ki aap unnecessary hasate ho…pehle toh edit ka nonsense tha comedy circus ke time, meri hasi zabardasti daalte the. The punch wasn’t even good; my laugh was edited after that, and I used to look really ridiculous. But yes, the agar joke is 19‑20, then I have to make it 21, but it can’t be a 5…”

Now that editing practices have evolved, she assured that her laughter on current shows is more genuine and earned. This vlog not only offered a peek into Archana’s personal reflections but also renewed appreciation for Kapil Sharma’s remarkable rise from hardship to Hindi comedy stardom.

Isha Koppikar recalls being slapped 14 times by Nagarjuna during Chandralekha shoot: "He slapped me, but softly"

Bollywood actor Isha Koppikar, who began her acting journey with Telugu cinema before transitioning to Bollywood, has been part of notable films like Don, LOC Kargil, and Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love, among others.

In a recent conversation with Hindi Rush, Isha shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote from her second film Chandralekha. She revealed that during the shoot of one particular scene, she was slapped by co-star Nagarjuna 14 times to get the perfect take.

Isha recalled that while filming Chandralekha, she insisted on being slapped for real to authentically capture the emotion of anger. Sharing the experience, she said, “I got slapped by Nagarjuna. I was a fully committed actor that I want to perform in a real, method way. So when he was slapping me, I couldn’t feel it. This was my second film, so I told him, ‘Nag, you really slap me.’ He said, ‘Are you sure? No, I can’t.’ I said, ‘I want that feeling. I am not feeling it right now.’ So he slapped me, but softly.”

The actor further shared that despite her efforts, the director was unable to capture the desired intensity of anger in her expression, resulting in several retakes. She said, “In an attempt to look angry, I got slapped 14 times. At the end, I literally had slap marks on my face. Bechara mujhe leke baitha, bola sorry (Poor guy, he apologised to me). I said, ‘I asked for it, why are you saying sorry?’”

Chandralekha marked Isha Koppikar’s debut as a lead in Telugu cinema. Directed by Krishna Vamsi, the comedy-drama starred Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishnan, and others. It was a remake of the Malayalam film directed by Priyadarshan.

Isha was last seen in the 2024 sci-fi film Ayalaan alongside Sivakarthikeyan and Rakul Preet Singh. The film, which also featured Sharad Kelkar and Yogi Babu, received positive reviews. She is yet to announce her next project.

Son of Sardaar 2 Advance Bookings open with BOGO offer, but box office journey may be bumpy

The much-awaited action-comedy Son of Sardaar 2 is all set to storm cinemas this Friday, August 1, 2025. Headlined by Ajay Devgn and backed by Jio Studios, the film’s advance bookings are now officially open — and to sweeten the deal for fans, the makers have announced a special Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) ticket offer, applicable only for first day shows across select theatres.

The promotional offer is a strategic push to boost footfalls on opening day and create early buzz for the sequel, which follows up on the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar. The film promises to retain the franchise’s signature mix of slapstick humour, over-the-top action, and Punjabi family drama — all centred around Devgn’s larger-than-life persona.

'SON OF SARDAAR 2' ADVANCE BOOKINGS OPEN – BOGO OFFER ANNOUNCED... #SonOfSardaar2 advance bookings are now LIVE.#AjayDevgn and #JioStudios have announced a special BOGO [Buy One Get One] free ticket offer – valid only for *first day shows*. Releasing in cinemas THIS FRIDAY [1… pic.twitter.com/YfIMIsGuMf

— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) July 30, 2025

However, despite the fanfare, Son of Sardaar 2 faces an uphill battle at the box office. The film’s release is wedged between two high-profile titles — Saiyaara, which continues to dominate screens since its release last Friday, and the much-hyped War 2, slated to release just a week later on August 8. Both films have strong brand pull and big stars, creating stiff competition and potentially dividing audience attention and screen space.

Additionally, while the BOGO offer may help drive higher occupancy on Day 1, it could also impact the film’s opening day revenue. With one free ticket given for every purchase, net collections for Friday could take a hit, particularly in urban centres where the offer is expected to see significant uptake. While this may work to Son of Sardaar 2’s advantage in terms of packed houses and social media chatter, it could dampen the immediate financial return — a factor that holds weight in today’s aggressively competitive box office landscape.

Nevertheless, the film benefits from Ajay Devgn’s mass appeal and the nostalgia attached to the first installment. If early audience reactions are positive, the film could find its footing through strong word-of-mouth, especially in single screens and smaller centres where Devgn continues to draw a loyal base.

As Friday approaches, all eyes will be on how Son of Sardaar 2 navigates the crowd and the commerce — and whether this gamble of timing and ticketing will pay off.

EXCLUSIVE: Andaaz 2 girl Aakaisha reveals, "I was apprehensive about intimate scenes but Aayush Kumar made me feel comfortable, safe"; HAILS Saiyaara actress Aneet Padda: "To see an OUTSIDER getting such an opportunity, fan following is very inspiring"

The beautiful and talented Aakaisha will make her debut with Andaaz 2. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actress spoke about the fascinating story of how she bagged the film, working with her co-actors and a lot more.

Less than two weeks to go before the release of your first film. How’s the feeling? I am very nervous and very excited. I still can’t believe that I have done a movie with Mr Suneel Darshan! This is a very big thing for me.

I am sure a lot of people must have auditioned for this role. How did you bag the part? I have done music videos before. Suneel sir spotted me in one of the music videos and asked his office to call me. When I was told that he was looking to cast me in Andaaz 2, I thought somebody was playing a prank! I assumed that mujhe koi itni badi movie ke liye kyun bulayega! I didn’t trust them and asked my mother to accompany me (laughs).

I met Suneel sir. He asked me a few questions about my life. 2-3 minutes later, he asked me to sign the contract! I don’t know how he made up his mind so quickly. He later told me, ‘The moment I saw you, I knew that you were my Alisha’. That’s the name of my character. Alisha is close to how I am in real life. That’s how he finalized me, I guess (smiles).

I have always seen Suneel Darshan smiling and calm. Did he ever get angry on the sets? We were scared to go on the sets. We feared that humein bahut daant padne waali hai. But his biggest speciality is that he’s always calm. I have never seen such patience in anyone else. Shooting for Andaaz 2 was one of the best experiences of my life.

How was your bond with Aayush Kumar and Natasha Fernandez? It was great with both. They were helpful. Natasha has worked in a film before. Hence, she guided me. With Aayush, I was required to do intimate scenes and I was apprehensive about it. But he didn’t make me feel uncomfortable even for a second. After every shot, he used to assure me that I was safe. That motivated me a lot.

It is often believed that when two heroines work, it leads to catfights. Did that happen on the sets of Andaaz 2? That is not true. To be honest, I had the best bonding with Natasha. We are both very different, nature-wise. Yet, we got attached to each other due to working together and also due to the conversations we had during the workshop. Hence, there was no question of a cat fight.

Until recently, there was a worry whether films starring newcomers could work. However, Saiyaara opened with a bang and is running successfully. Since you are also a newcomer and your film is full of fresh faces, does it give you hope for the prospects of Andaaz 2? It’s heartening to see that new faces are being launched. The heroine in Saiyaara, Aneet Padda, is an outsider. To see a newcomer getting such an opportunity and to have such a huge following is very inspiring.

Where are you from and how did you enter this field? I am from Delhi and I started working to support my family. I fell in love with this work. I am very shy and introverted. But then, when I started working, I realized that I was able to nicely express my emotions in front of the camera. That’s how I continued doing this work. One thing led to another and eventually, I bagged Andaaz 2 (smiles).

It seems like the shy personality exists. In one of your Instagram stories, you could be seen having a delicious meal all by yourself at a restaurant… (Laughs) There’s also a part of me that I like to be all alone and spend time all by myself. Due to the nature of my work, I have tried to be an extrovert and talk to more people; this is something I was not able to do before. But when I am all alone, my true self comes to the fore.

Now that you have tried eating out alone, do you plan to go on a solo trip? Yes. In fact, I am planning to go on my first ever solo trip this year around my birthday, that is, November 4.

What plans do you have on August 8, the day Andaaz 2 releases? Will you be able to sleep well the night before? Mujhe uss raat bilkul neend nahin aayegi. Mujhe abhi se neend aani bandh ho gayi hai (laughs). I still can’t believe that I have completed the shoot of my debut film and that I’ll soon be seen on the big screen (smiles).

Making of Saiyaara’s ‘Tum Ho Toh’: Singer and music composer Vishal Mishra says, "It comes from a beautiful place, a Sufi space"

Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara, featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, brings back the charm of old-school romantic storytelling in Hindi cinema with its captivating visuals and soulful music. One such track is ‘Tum Ho Toh’, composed by Vishal Mishra, sung by Vishal Mishra and Hansika Pareek, with lyrics penned by Raj Shekhar. In a recent YRF video, the team behind the song shared insights into its creation.

Talking about the creation of ‘Tum Ho Toh’, Mohit Suri said, “Vishal and me go a long way, and while everyone is going to him with the very serious, somber, angsty songs, I said, there’s a happy side to you, Vishal. There’s a fun side to you, and let’s make a song on that side. But still in the romantic thing, which is not emotionless. And that’s how ‘Tum Ho Toh’ came.”

Singer Vishal Mishra shared his experience working with Mohit Suri, saying, “He believes that I should make more fun songs. And he said, I want you to make a song that is fun yet soulful, yet romantic, and yet very exuberant of young love. It was beautiful. So we had to make a very fresh song. And Raj Shekhar was there and he came up with my most favorite line of the song. That if you are around me, everything is just beautiful.”

Raj Shekhar said, “Mohit sir’s brief was to create a song that carries the energy of youth but also has a certain stillness to it. Like one of the lines says, ‘Even recklessness with you feels like peace.’ I had written the initial part of the song first, and Vishal composed it based on that. From there, the song started to take shape.”

Talking about working with Vishal Mishra, Mohit Suri said, “Vishal hears a brief of the whole film and the story and he says what is the thought you know it just comes to him it’s like ‘I’m feeling this, I’m feeling that’. You know what I like about Vishal is he can work with you for the whole day and then turn around and tell you we need to make something better.”

Describing the emotion behind the song, Raj Shekhar said, “It’s about two people coming together and trying to find eternity in a single moment. I feel that when two beautiful hearts meet, that one moment becomes something that lasts forever.”

Vishal added, “It comes from a beautiful place, a Sufi space. So it’s special for me, very, very special to Raj ji, and to Mohit as well. I want you to go and give it all your love—make it your own song. You’ll find a part of yourself in it, some vulnerable, scattered piece of your soul.”

Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi, Tara Sutaria to perform their own stunts in Toxic

The excitement surrounding Toxic, slated to be the biggest action spectacle of 2026 is only getting more intense. The high-octane action drama, headlined by superstar Yash, boasts an ensemble cast featuring Akshay Oberoi, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and more. And what’s setting the buzz ablaze is the revelation that every lead actor in the film is performing their own stunts, yes, including the fierce female stars.

Sources close to the film have confirmed that Toxic is designed as a gritty, high-impact action film, where the makers insisted on raw, real action sequences, performed by the actors themselves under the close supervision of a professional stunt and action team.

Akshay Oberoi, who is known for his commitment to physical roles, has reportedly been undergoing intense action training for months. Alongside him, Yash, known for redefining mass action cinema, is also executing his stunts, ensuring a visceral visual experience for the audience. The film doesn’t stop at male-led action; both Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi are taking on physically demanding sequences with absolute grit and determination, pushing the envelope for action heroines in Indian cinema.

Speaking about the action-packed nature of the film, a source from the production said, "Akshay Oberoi and Yash are performing major action set-pieces themselves, no doubles. And it's not just the male leads. Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi have shocked everyone on set with their dedication to training and pulling off full-fledged stunts. The action in Toxic is brutal, slick, and grounded and every actor is giving it their all."

Suniel Shetty reflects on action career and pandemic pause; says, “I analysed my own actions and realised, I have been doing the same crap”

Veteran actor Suniel Shetty, at 63, stars in the second season of the gritty web series Hunter, streaming on Amazon MX Player, and admits that the pandemic gave him an essential wake‑up call about his career choices. In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, he revealed how the hiatus forced him to rethink familiar patterns.

Reflecting on his multi-decade run in action cinema, Shetty said, “During the pandemic, I also had a 4‑5 year break from my career. I watched so much that I became the end user. I started understanding cinema from the viewer's perspective. Then, I analysed my own actions and realised, 'I have been doing the same crap.' I decided to change that. It’s about reinventing yourself after understanding what your negatives are.”

He doesn’t look back with regret—just discernment. Shetty added, “There are a lot of films I wouldn’t do today, many roles I wouldn’t do now. Samajh bhi nahi thi. Kabhi kabhi directors me capability nahi thi execute karne me un kahaniyon ko. At the same time, I have done so many films and one has managed to survive, toh aage jo karenge soch‑samajh ke karenge. That's why I am very choosy with whatever little I get.”

On the evolution of action cinema, he shared, “It’s not just about the energy and power behind the action, but the presence of mind and understanding the situation. You have to make the action look better, making sure the action is backed with a solid situation.”

Shetty also voiced his support for emerging talent, lamenting that “the younger writers are not writing such scripts.” He emphasized that audiences will embrace fresh performers if they’re given “scripts and characters that are convincing”, highlighting that “there are many young actors who are very good with their performances and can be as good in action. But you need to give them those characters.”

With Hunter Season 2 now streaming, Shetty’s reflection and renewed selectiveness mark a creative turning point—one grounded in self-awareness, growth, and a more mature understanding of storytelling.

Tahir Raj Bhasin aims to bring Shah Rukh Khan’s style disruption to Bollywood; says, “SRK today is an icon, but what he was doing in the 90s, were all the kind of heroes”

As the Hindi film industry navigates fierce competition from South Indian cinema, booming OTT platforms, and rapidly shifting audience tastes, Tahir Raj Bhasin views this moment not as a crisis, but as a transformative opportunity. In a candid interview, he invoked the example of Shah Rukh Khan in the 1990s, hoping to emulate the same blend of disruption and charisma that defined that era's cinema.

Currently earning rave reviews for his role as 'The Collector'—a powerful antagonist in Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops 2—Tahir has carved a respected place in Hindi cinema without the backing of a traditional film family. Reflecting on SRK’s influence, he explained:

“90s SRK was disruptive. It was the villain in Baazigar and the charmer that we saw in DDLJ. SRK today is an icon, but what he was doing in the 90s, were all the kind of heroes like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, who were flawed and had an element of charm to them. And so comes the idea to me that I would lend my skill to stories that are disruptive and drive them as entertainingly as possible.”

Tahir describes Bollywood as a “living organism” that must evolve, “It evolves and has to change and adapt to the time and to the audience.” He added, “Only in times of change can new experiments and new things be tried out.”

On the OTT versus theatrical experience, he stated, “There’s a charm in seeing a film in a theatre with a large community in a dark room and great surround sound,” “But then there are some stories that are better told in an episodic format on OTT.”

Tahir also shared how Special Ops 2 gained a surprisingly balanced and enthusiastic response, particularly from female fans, “I thought the genre would appeal more to a male audience because of the action and espionage. But the response has been very balanced.” He added, “You always want to leave the audience feeling like they want to know more. Curiosity is the best way to engage with your audience.”

Looking ahead, Tahir hinted at a diverse upcoming slate, including a mystery thriller for Netflix opposite Parineeti Chopra. He said, “Absolutely. We’re looking at a bunch of scripts. It’s always about finding the right part.”

A declared “hardcore Bollywood buff,” he shared he’s open to transitioning into romantic hero roles if the script resonates with him.

EXCLUSIVE: Like Saiyaara stars, YRF talent Tahir Raj Bhasin’s absence from Mardaani promotions also worked big time: “Not going OVERBOARD with PR before release helps maintain curiosity”; actor also talks about “out of the world” response to Special Ops 2; opens up on UPI changed to OBI, not sharing screen space with Kay Kay Menon

Tahir Raj Bhasin came into the limelight with Mardaani (2014), where he played the ruthless and suave villain. 11 years later, he once again gets into the villain zone with Special Ops 2. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the dashing actor spoke about the feedback, his journey and a lot more.

How has the feedback been for Special Ops 2? It’s incredible. I am over the moon at the moment! It's out of this world; it's 3 times what I expected. If you get to be a part of the show that has already set a benchmark in Season 1, then you know that you are shouldering the responsibility of upping that benchmark. And when fans write to you and appreciate your part, it’s the best thing an actor can get.

What are the fans saying? On social media, people are saying stuff like ‘Gadar character’ and ‘Jhakaas acting’. Some are asking why I didn’t listen to the full thumri, something I had requested from the Banaras artists! The philosophy of the Collector has connected with the people. So, it was great to see that from the acting to the way the character carried himself to the locations, people have invested in various aspects of the show.

How did you bag the show? Did you approach director Neeraj Pandey, or was it the other way round? I was approached by Neeraj Pandey’s office. That itself was a big compliment because getting a chance to go head-to-head with Kay Kay Menon was a feat. I have always admired Neeraj Pandey’s work. I grew up watching A Wednesday (2008) and Special 26 (2013). For me, his work comes under the realism-meets-style category. I resonate with it as my acting is also on the same lines.

When I was called, I went to meet him. From the minute he narrated the first scene, where the antagonist is introduced listening to classical music, I was hooked, as it was so unusual!

Since Neeraj Pandey is known to do extensive research and incorporate true events or characters, was your part also inspired by any real person? I won’t say one person but my characters and the plot were inspired by multiple people or episodes. The names might have been changed while depicting the cyber attack references in the show, but they are all real issues, be it corporate espionage or national security. That’s what I like about Neeraj Pandey’s writing – it is rooted in research. If the show was made 10 years ago, it would have been categorized as science fiction, but today, everything that the Collector is shown indulging in is a reality. It raises an important question: What is security anymore? Conventionally, you would see an antagonist fighting with guns or muscles. But here, it's just with a VPN and your data.

How was it to shoot with Neeraj Pandey? I have heard that he’s particular about his script and prefers to shoot exactly as per the writing… Yes. In fact, he’s also a man of few words. In a day or two, you will understand what he wants to convey. Because he invests time in writing the script himself, he is very particular. He is like ‘Pause yahaan par hai toh yahin par rakho’, ‘emotion yahin change hona chahiye’, etc. He has the same approach even to his shot-taking. He has a lot of clarity. He sees the edit before he gets on the set.

Interestingly, you and Kay Kay Menon don’t have scenes together… Yes, and thank you for realizing that. People are asking me, ‘What was it like shooting with Kay Kay Menon’. And I tell them that ‘I haven’t shot with him’!

But did you regret not sharing screen space with him despite being a part of the same show? I won’t say I regretted it, but I knew that for a genre like this, the fact that we never met and the way it was done was fascinating. Our confrontation was minimal; many remarked that they wanted to see more of it. But I feel that leaving viewers at a point where they want to see more is always better than them complaining ki ‘Yeh bahut zyada ho gaya’. It was minimal yet impactful. Going forward, I’d love to work with him again and hopefully we’ll share the screen together.

In the show, we noticed that the word ‘UPI’ was changed to ‘OBI’. Why was that done? Honestly, you act according to the creative directions being given to you. I am sure that they had creative reasons behind doing so. I am not very clear on what the reason was. Yes, you are right; it was changed. But the audience, by and large, understood as my character also says that it's an attack on the country’s financial institution. There’s also a line that ek bhikhari se lekar ek businessman tak, sab use karte hai. Hence, people knew what we were referring to.

It’s been a while since you worked in a film and you have concentrated mainly on OTT shows. I have noticed that you have kept a healthy balance of playing protagonist as well as antagonist, be it with Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein or Sultan Of Bombay and now Special Ops 2. Was that intentional? Yes, 100%. OTT is a great space where you can experiment a lot. The kind of stories that you can tell there can be out-of-the-box. Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein starts as a love triangle. Then it goes wrong and the character turns grey. Sultan Of Delhi is a typical Milan Luthria gangster type of drama. So, the goal is always to not get set in one mould. You create a mould and then you break it. I am drawn to lead parts that are disruptive. The same goes for the character of Collector in Special Ops 2. When he enters the story, it leads to a plot twist. That’s what my one-line bio would be – I am the plot twist!

Next month, in August, your first major film Mardaani will complete 11 years. Even there, we saw you as a ruthless villain. It was made by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and you are a YRF talent. Recently, their blockbuster film Saiyaara was released and the way the lead newcomer actors didn’t do pre-release interviews was appreciated. It reminded me how even you were not revealed to the media before Mardaani’s release and when you finally came out for a post-release press conference, it was lapped up. You recently stressed on ‘less is more’ principle when it comes to your work. Do you prefer that in real life as well?

I can only speak for Mardaani. And it was intentional, as there was a mystery to my character. There was an intrigue to know who he is. And it matched up with what the overall story was. It’s a part I always count as one of my favourites because, again, it was disruptive. You don’t get to see such roles and that’s why it stood out. There was a lot of love for it, both from within the industry and the audience. Also, the idea to not go overboard with the PR before the film release helps maintain the curiosity. It’s always been my belief and I know that my agency believes the same, that let your work do the talking. Once people are convinced about your work, then even a conversation makes more sense.

I remember watching Mardaani on the first day of release and while exiting the theatre, patrons were discussing you. They wanted to know who you were and what your name was. It indeed left a huge impression… Thank you so much. 11 years after that film, I got a chance to play an all-out antagonist in Special Ops 2. It's great to see that it’s getting almost the same kind of appreciation.

Will you be back in Mardaani 3? I would love to return but unfortunately, in the first part, my character was killed! Unless someone creates a character of a twin brother, I don’t think it's possible (smiles).

What next from your side? I just finished shooting a fun series. It co-stars Parineeti Chopra. It’s a mystery drama, directed by Rensil D’Silva. It will air on Netflix.

Are you looking at returning to films? Yes. There are scripts on the table and it's all about finding the correct project.

Salman Khan took to Instagram recently to share a reflective and deeply personal note, quoting a thought-provoking piece of advice from his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan. The superstar, dressed in a simple black Being Human t-shirt, paired the image with a caption that struck a chord with fans and followers.

“Present becomes yr past, past catches up 2 your future, present Is a gift, do right with it, mistakes repeated becomes a habit n then your character, dont blame any 1, no 1 can make u do anything that u don’t want to. The cryptic yet philosophical post has sparked widespread speculation among fans, with many trying to decode whether the star was hinting at personal regrets or sharing a general life reflection. Known for maintaining a guarded personal life, Salman’s rare introspection struck a nerve with audiences who praised the humility and truth in the message.

The post comes at a significant time for Khan, who is currently gearing up for one of the most ambitious roles of his career. According to recent reports, the release date of Battle of Galwan has been pushed from its initially speculated Eid 2026 window. A source informed Bollywood Hungama, “This is because three films are already scheduled for release on March 19, 2026 – Yash-starer Toxic, the comic caper Dhamaal 4, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s intense romantic drama Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal.”

While Salman Khan hasn’t commented on the revised timeline, his focus seems to be on both self-growth and embodying the real-life heroism of Col. Santosh Babu. His post, filled with quiet wisdom and emotional resonance, reminds fans that even the biggest stars are constantly evolving — sometimes, with just a few words from a father.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra slams industry's obsession with fame: “Your spine is now connected to your bank balance”

Veteran filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, known for iconic films like Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, and 3 Idiots, recently shared a hard-hitting critique of Bollywood's evolving culture during an episode of Creator x Creator hosted by SCREEN. The filmmaker opened up about his experiences with now-celebrated actors and how success often alters personalities and artistic intent.

“There is more purity in new people, less corruption. Many people who assisted me have become great filmmakers today; when I meet them now, I can see the difference. When they worked with me, there was a certain purity. Unfortunately, if I cast a new face in my film and that one movie does well, it changes them,” Chopra said, underlining the transformative—often negative—impact of fame on fresh talent.

Having launched the careers of several celebrated stars, Chopra didn’t hold back in recalling how the industry changes people. “I’ve worked with so many people and I’ve seen them change. Mission Kashmir was Hrithik Roshan’s first film… Vidya Balan’s first film… Boman Irani’s first film… There’s a whole list, I don’t know how many. As they become successful, all of them, this isn’t an individual thing, they change. That’s why I like people who are nobodies, because once you become somebody, you don’t remain the same person,” he said candidly.

The filmmaker also expressed disappointment in the industry's growing fixation on box office numbers and mass success over creative authenticity. “The people only care about the hits these days. No one has a vision, and no one wants to create for the joy of creating. They make one massive film with a Rs 400 crore box office collection, and suddenly they start walking differently,” Chopra remarked.

In a sharply worded anecdote, Chopra illustrated the shift in attitude that often accompanies success. “There was a producer who I knew, and he was always very polite while talking and had a soft demeanour. Suddenly one day, he meets me with his chest puffed and some weight in his voice. I asked him, ‘Teri koi picture hit ho gayi (Did one of your films succeed)?’ He said, ‘Sir, you know everything; my film did succeed.’ I told him that I had no idea that one of his films worked; all I knew was that his spine is connected to his bank balance, and that’s why he was walking upright. These days the spine is always connected to the bank balance and not the quality of their work.”

Chopra's brutally honest insights offer a sobering look at the evolution of creative integrity in modern Indian cinema.

Udita shared that the journey of Saiyaara was far from easy for Mohit. She also commended his steadfast dedication to storytelling and his talent for discovering new talent rather than depending on established stars. “You’re a star maker—you don’t need stars to shine, and you’ve never compromised on your creative integrity. THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS is yet another fabulous entertainer Movie Review: THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS is an entertainer

Star Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn

Director: Matt Shakman

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review Synopsis: THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS is the story of superheroes saving the world. The film is set in a retro-futuristic world of the 1960s. On Earth 828, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) reside in New York. They are astronomers who go to space for a mission but gain superhero powers after being exposed to cosmic rays. They now use their powers to save the Earth from trouble. Reed and Sue are married and the latter is pregnant. The superheroes are happy, but their celebration is short-lived when a mysterious woman, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), appears to announce to the people of Earth that their planet has been marked for destruction by the planet-devouring cosmic being, Galactus (Ralph Ineson). The Fantastic Four realize that she is not bluffing and that Galactus is indeed destroying and disappearing planets. With no other option in hand, they once again don their spacesuits and head to space, this time to find Galactus and stop him from attacking the Earth. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Story Review: Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer and Kat Wood's story serves as a nice introduction of the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer's screenplay keeps viewers captivated but is also a bit stagnant in some places. The dialogues are entertaining.

Matt Shakman's direction is supreme. Like SUPERMAN, the origin backstory is also not given much prominence, though in this film, the beginnings of the superheroes are shown through montages and not just in text form. The 60s vibe is also well captured. What works big time is the bond between the superheroes and how they always stay united. The scene where they refuse to accept Galactus’ condition and the effect of it on the humans is quite dramatic. The subtle comment made here on trolling and sensational news debates is very relatable. Matt, however, reserves the best for the finale. It is exhilarating and also touching. The mid-credit scene, meanwhile, would lead to a frenzy in cinemas.

On the flipside, the pace of the film drops in a few places. The entire track of Johnny learning the alien language is difficult to comprehend. One also doesn’t fully connect to the idea of Harvey aka Mole Man (Paul Walter Hauser). In the quest to give a quick introduction, the makers didn’t give certain plot points their due. Meanwhile, the timing of the release can prove detrimental in India.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review Performances: Pedro Pascal, as always, looks dashing and delivers a subtle yet effective performance. Vanessa Kirby gets to play a cool character, and she does total justice. She shines in the climax. Joseph Quinn is adorable and puts up a first-rate act. Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ralph Ineson make their presence felt. Julia Garner leaves a huge mark. Paul Walter Hauser, Sarah Niles (Lynne Nichols), Mark Gatiss (Ted Gilbert) and Natasha Lyonne (Rachel Rozman) get limited scope.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie music and other technical aspects: Michael Giacchino's music has a vintage feel. Jess Hall's cinematography is supreme. Kasra Farahani's production design gets the retro-futuristic aesthetic right. Alexandra Byrne's costumes are appropriate. Nona Khodai and Tim Roche's editing could have been slicker.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS is yet another fabulous entertainer from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after THUNDERBOLTS. Though it has managed good advance sales, it might not be able to reach its full box office potential due to the gigantic SAIYAARA wave.

Trade experts say that Saiyaara’s massive success prove that Kartik Aaryan-Anurag Basu’s next and Harshvardhan Rane’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat are also at an advantage

Post-pandemic, a perception was spread that only ‘big-screen worthy’ films will work at the box office. The supporters of this theory believed that if a film doesn’t have those cinematic elements and would not make a difference whether one consumes it in cinemas or at home, then such movies will not get the desired audience. The myth was soon broken, and yet, our filmmakers decided to make more and more big-budget action films and thrillers, mounted on a huge scale. While doing so, they ignored the one genre that has the maximum takers – romance. Saiyaara’s blockbuster success has proved that there’s a massive audience for love stories. In fact, its huge box office collection also proves that two upcoming romantic sagas can be at a huge advantage – Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela’s untitled next directed by Anurag Basu and Milap Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Kartik and Anurag’s film will have an advantage. I am sure its producer, Bhushan Kumar, would market the music of this film extensively. Especially when a film gets such roaring success, it charges your every cell. The same applies for Harshvardhan Rane’s film.”

He added, “Love stories can never go wrong. We are all emotional beings and our emotions are connected with someone. That’s why we get affected when we see such films in cinemas. We have a smile on our faces and also tears in our eyes. As a result, I would place my bet on Kartik’s next, Harshvardhan’s next and all other love stories coming in the near future.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan observed, “Even the films that worked in repeat runs like Laila Majnu, Sanam Teri Kasam, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani etc. were all musical love stories. Meanwhile, the industry delivered too many action films and thrillers. The success of these re-releases and Saiyaara proves that the public wants romantic movies on the big screen.”

Taran Adarsh continued, “There was a lot of conviction from the makers of Saiyaara. That’s very important. And the script holds you with great music. I don’t really hum songs, but I was constantly humming the title track of Saiyaara!”

Atul Mohan stressed the importance of songs, “This once again proves that music is very important. We have ignored this aspect in our films. When a song works, the film definitely gets an advantage. Metro…In Dino also worked as its songs worked and that indirectly proved beneficial at the box office.”

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, stated, “Kartik Aaryan’s next will work on its merit. The people backing it are very good. The music should land well, since they have recreated the Aashiqui track. The vibe of the film is fresh. Kartik’s look is also great.”

Also Read: Trade experts praise Saiyaara’s lead actors, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and discuss what lies next for them: “Woh jo launde ro rahe hai na theatre mein, woh apne aap ko Ahaan Panday mein dekh rahe hai; Aneet also left an impression… casting is perfect and it worked with the audience”

The performances of Saiyaara are top-notch and this applies not just to lead actors Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, but also to the supporting cast. One such actor who stood out was Alam Khan, who played the role of the protagonist’s kind-hearted and rich friend, KV. Congratulations on your role in Saiyaara! What feedback have you received? The feedback has been amazing and consistent. People love the character KV and say everyone needs a friend like KV in their life.

Many wished for a friend like KV to fund their dream projects! Did you get similar feedback? Absolutely. Everyone is looking for someone like KV. I also wish I had a KV in my life (laughs).

You watched Saiyaara at Gaiety, as evident by your post on Instagram. How was that experience? That photo was actually taken by my younger brother. It feels great to see our film screened where we used to watch big stars’ films. It’s a full-circle moment, and watching it on that big screen at Gaiety was truly special.

How did you get this role? I bagged it after 6-7 rounds of auditions. Shanoo ma’am (casting director Shanoo Sharma), Mohit sir (director Mohit Suri) and Sumana ma’am (Creative Executive Producer Sumana Ghosh) trusted me, and I was offered the role.

How are Ahaan and Aneet like off-screen? How was working with them? Both are amazing, intelligent and hardworking actors. Ahaan is an old friend, and we’ve made short films together before. Aneet is young and very talented with a bright future ahead. Everyone is happy with the final results.

How is Mohit Suri as a director? Mohit Suri is incredible. He gives actors the space and time to perform their best. His focus on content and performance greatly contributed to my strong performance in the film.

Working with YRF (Yash Raj Films) is a dream for any actor. Did you experience their reputed care for actors? Yes, working with YRF felt like a fairy tale. The whole experience was very professional and enjoyable, all done Bollywood-style.

You have worked before in films and web shows. How has Saiyaara's response been like in that regard? Has it given you the maximum exposure? Saiyaara is the biggest and most special project of my life. It crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark, which is huge for me and verifies the film’s success and impact.

Have any prominent actors or filmmakers reached out to you about your role? Yes, many people, including Raaj Shandaaliyaa and Arunabh Kumar (owner of TVF), called to appreciate my work. They praised my hard work and told me it’s my time to shine. It motivates me to keep working harder.

What next? Is there a chance of a next season for Kota Factory? I can’t comment on Kota Factory and their new season or Saiyaara 2 yet. Just stay tuned.

You must have seen videos of youngsters going crazy watching Saiyaara. The box office is also historic; no one imagined in their wildest dreams that the film would perform in such a manner. What do you think has worked for the film so well? Everything worked well. Director Mohit Suri’s vision was crucial. Good direction, strong content, and powerful acting came together perfectly. The music also created a unique atmosphere, making the film a comprehensive success.

Vidya Balan shuts down body image critics; says, “I actually believe there is nothing wrong with me”

National Award–winning actor Vidya Balan has opened up about her conscious decision to take a break from acting. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she described the hiatus as a time of peace, self-belief, and growth—as opposed to stress or fear of fading from the limelight.

When asked whether stepping away from the screen makes her uneasy, Vidya said, “I think I am shamelessly optimistic. I have so much self‑belief. I have put myself out there at my biggest and not batted an eyelid.”

She added that, “I’ve had people tell me I should work on myself, that I should shed weight. But I actually believe there is nothing wrong with me. And I think that is a great attitude because it helped me sail through. I was still playing the lead, so I don't think those kinds of insecurities have ever weighed me down.”

For the first time, she admitted, she is in a “stress‑free phase.” “For the first time in my life, I am not experiencing stress. Knowingly or unknowingly, we go through a lot of stress. I am enjoying this period. I am reading scripts, meeting people, and I have decided on two films. Unfortunately, I am not able to talk about it right now,” she stated.

Vidya’s previous screen appearance was in the 2024 blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, alongside Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit. Before that, she starred in the romantic comedy Do Aur Do Pyaar with Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Her upcoming project is the historical epic Raja Shivaji, directed by Riteish Deshmukh and starring Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, and Genelia D’Souza. It is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

Trade experts discuss postponement of Son Of Sardaar 2 due to the Saiyaara wave: "Very good business call by Ajay Devgn…I don't think we should be doubting his judgment… post-Covid, he has one of the BEST track records in Bollywood"

Bollywood Hungama was among the first ones to break the news that Son Of Sardaar 2 has been postponed from July 25 to August 1. The decision was taken by the makers of the Ajay Devgn-starrer after last week’s release Saiyaara took a surprisingly huge opening and grew dramatically on the second day. Realizing that this film is unstoppable, the producers of Son Of Sardaar 2 pushed the film by a week. Trade experts lauded Ajay Devgn and Jio Studios for this wise decision.

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, said, “It was a very good business call by Ajay Devgn. Ajay is smart; he’s one of the few actors who has distributed films in Mumbai territory. Hence, he understands business better than most of us. I think he can provide people like me a great amount of insight and knowledge about box office and related aspects. I don’t think we should be doubting his judgment. When he saw that a non-star cast was performing like this, he knew that the second weekend would be even more potent than the first.”

He added, “He also must have thought that Son Of Sardaar 2 needed more single screens than multiplexes. In single screens, show-sharing would have been a tough challenge had the film stuck to its original date. As a result, their target audience would have been compromised. Therefore, I feel that this is a fantastic business decision by Ajay Devgn. Business decisions should be taken with egos kept aside.”

The postponement led to a lot of trolling. Vishek hit back at the trolls, “It is Ajay’s money which is at stake. Twitter pe log kya gyaan de rahe hai? The day they put their money and clash with a film like Saiyaara, tab samaj mein aayega. Also, let’s not forget that post-Covid, Ajay Devgn has one of the best track records in Bollywood, thanks to Drishyam 2, Raid 2, Shaitaan, Singham Again etc.”

He continued. “Now that Son Of Sardaar 2 comes on August 1, it’ll get enough single screens. If it had been released on July 25, I wouldn’t have been able to give the film shows. It would have faced the same struggle in many other mass centres of Bihar.”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh agreed, “It’s a wise decision. He realized on time and postponed the release by a week. Now, we have Dhadak 2 also releasing on the same day as Son Of Sardaar 2. Both are franchises. So, let’s see what happens. Dhadak 2, incidentally, is again on a love story (just like Saiyaara).”

He remarked, “They (Son Of Sardaar 2 makers) have less than two weeks to score as War 2 releases on a Thursday (August 14). Nevertheless, there's room for good content. It goes for all, including (this week’s releases), The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mahavatar Narsimha. But one can’t deny that Saiyaara’s wave is too strong.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan spoke on the same lines, “Yes, it’s a wise decision. However, when a big film starring a big star like Ajay Devgn gets pushed in this manner, perception-wise, it might not come across as a good thing to do. But from the business point of view, it makes sense. Now, it’ll get sandwiched between Saiyaara and War 2. They will have only two weeks to perform, as compared to earlier, when they would have had three weeks to excel before War 2 arrives. Nevertheless, a 14-day window is also more than enough to make a mark at the ticket window.”

Rakesh Roshan urges preventive screening after neck surgery: “Prevention is always better than cure”

Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently underwent a medical procedure to address a serious, though asymptomatic, health issue concerning his neck. The 74-year-old was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital last week, where doctors carried out a carotid artery angioplasty—a preventive procedure designed to improve blood flow to the brain by clearing major blockages in the arteries.

The procedure was conducted after a crucial discovery during a routine health check-up. Sharing his experience on Instagram, Roshan wrote, “This week has been truly eye opening, during a routine full body health check up the Dr conducting the sonography for the heart suggested I also do one for the neck. By chance we found out that although asymptomatic, both my carotid arteries to the brain were above 75% blocked. Which if ignored could be potentially dangerous. I immediately admitted myself into the hospital and got the preventative procedures done. I am back home now fully recovered and hope to get back to my workouts very soon.”

Roshan further used the opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and preventive care, especially for individuals over the age of 45. He added, “I hope this inspires others to stay on top of their health especially where the heart and brain is concerned. A heart CT and a carotid brain artery sonography (which is often ignored completely) is a must for everyone above 45-50 years old. I think it’s important to remember that prevention is always better than cure. I wish a healthy and aware year to you all.”

Now recovering at home, the filmmaker’s message has resonated widely, with fans and industry colleagues wishing him a speedy recovery and appreciating his openness about health awareness.

Roshan is best known for directing and producing blockbusters such as Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and the Krrish.

Siddhant Chaturvedi clears air on Ananya Panday’s growth; says, “She is a very strong girl, very, very talented”

Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi has broken his silence on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent remark suggesting that actress Ananya Panday matured as a performer following the much-discussed 2020 “struggle” comment that reignited the nepotism debate.

In an interview, Siddhant said, “I don’t think it’s my contribution. Independently, she is a very strong girl, very, very talented, and a nice person to be with.”

Reflecting on their collaborations, Siddhant said, “I have done two films with her and I look forward to doing more. I don’t think your growth happens because of anyone. Either you are an actor, or you are not. She was always an actress. It’s just that she got those opportunities and she excelled.”

He added warmly, “Whenever we have collaborated, it has worked. I think we are each other’s lucky charm.”

Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday have previously shared screen space in Gehraiyaan (2022), a romantic drama also starring Deepika Padukone, and later reunited for Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), a coming-of-age film that streamed on Netflix.

Siddhant is now gearing up for Dhadak 2, where he will be seen opposite Triptii Dimri. Meanwhile, Ananya recently wrapped up the shoot of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, an upcoming romantic drama alongside Kartik Aaryan.

“I wanted Priyanka Chopra & Katrina Kaif together in Raajneeti,” reveals Prakash Jha

Just before Priyanka Chopra, who celebrates her birthday on July 18, left Mumbai to pursue a career in the West, she starred in one final Bollywood film — Prakash Jha’s Jai GangaaJal. In it, Priyanka played a gritty, no-nonsense cop battling corruption in a small town in Bihar. Interestingly, the role was originally written for a male actor, making Priyanka the unequivocal hero of the film. However, with her Hollywood commitments looming, Priyanka had to leave Mumbai, and Jha was left to promote the film largely on his own.

Looking back, the filmmaker harbours no ill feelings. “She had other commitments. Priyanka had told me well in advance that her dates were locked for the shoot of a series abroad… She did try to address the media whenever she could by joining online!” Jha recalls.

In fact, Jha had hoped to collaborate with Priyanka again. “I had offered her the lead in Raajneeti with Ranbir Kapoor. For reasons best known to her, she decided not to do it, although I was very keen that she come on board. That’s when Katrina Kaif stepped in. I actually wanted to cast both Katrina and Priyanka together. But Priyanka had other plans.”

Despite the missed opportunity, Jha has nothing but admiration for the global star. “Today I am so, so happy to see how far she has come — much further than any of us could have imagined. It’s astonishing to see her being such a wonderful wife, a great mother, and a globally celebrated actress. Hats off!”

Would he work with Priyanka again? “I’d love to. But the question is — would she?”

In an emotional Instagram post, Karan described the film as a transformative experience, where after watching it, “tears flowing and yet the feeling of immense joy.” He added, “I don’t remember the last time I felt like this after watching a film… Joy for the fact that a love story has conquered the silver screen and made the nation fall in love… Proudest that my Alma mater @yrf has bought love back!!!”

Highlighting the film’s unparalleled use of music, he wrote, “@mohitsuri makes the best film of his career and am blown away by his storytelling, his craft and his magnificent use of music… the music is not just a pillar but a character in this film.” Karan also saluted producer Aditya Widhani (@awidhani), calling his debut “officially out of the park.”

Karan showered the newcomers with glowing remarks: “What a debut @ahaanpandayy!!!!! You broke my heart and yet energised me as a filmmaker. Your eyes spoke volumes, and I can’t wait to see your journey ahead… You are spectacular!!!!! Welcome to the movies!!! @aneetpadda_, you gorgeous girl. How lovely and amazing are you!!! Amid the supportive comments came a harsh jab from a troll who wrote in the comments section: “A gaya nepo kid ka daijaan.” Uncharacteristically, Karan responded with a sharp retort, “Chup kar!!! Ghar baithe baithee negativity mat paal! Do bachon ka kaam dekh!! Aur khud kuch kaam kar !!!!”

Fans swiftly rallied behind Karan’s defense. One commented, “Every time it’s not necessary to point out nepotism. If people are talented, they should be appreciated. You said it very well @karanjohar.” Another pointed out cynically, “Nothing succeeds like success. Had this film been a flop, Kjo wouldn’t have written all this!” Others encouraged a collaboration: “Please, Karan, make a good romantic movie with Ahaan and Aneet,” while many lauded the duo: “Excellent performance! Ahaan & Padda, you both nailed it.” One fan summed it up: “Only once in a while a movie like this comes out … totally heart‑shattering, but so uplifting.”

Son Of Sardaar 2 pushed due to Saiyaara wave; gives a deja vu of SOS vs Jab Tak Hai Jaan; Drishyam vs Bhediya; Ae Dil Hai Mushkil vs Shivaay

Yesterday, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report that Son Of Sardaar 2 would be postponed from July 25 to August 1. The decision was taken as this week’s big release, Saiyaara, took an unexpectedly huge opening and refuses to subside. Realizing that it can be strong even in its second week, a sound decision was taken to push the Ajay Devgn starrer by a week. This incident ignited memories of several past box office clashes and episodes.

1. Son Of Sardaar vs Jab Tak Hai Jaan Saiyaara is backed by Yash Raj Films (YRF). In 2012, their love saga Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashed with the first part of Son Of Sardaar, which also starred Ajay Devgn in the lead. It was the first time in the modern era that a major controversy was witnessed at the box office as YRF reportedly blocked all screens for the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. Ajay realized about it late, after which he went all out and managed to get a sizeable number of screens for his film. But in some centres, it didn’t get enough showcasing in the first week. It is a big coincidence that a YRF film once again was there in the corner when Son Of Sardaar’s second part was up for release.  The episode set the norm and later, many films got into fights over screens, more so in the post-pandemic era. Thankfully, with Son Of Sardaar 2 being postponed, this fight between distributors of the two films has been avoided.

2. Drishyam 2 vs Bhediya Just like Saiyaara, Drishyam 2 also released on the 18th – November 18, 2022, to be precise – and it was also a film which had generated buzz. Again, no one expected it to open with a bang and continue to excel in weekdays as well as the second week. That time, Bhediya was up for release a week later, on November 25. Just like Son Of Sardaar 2, the horror comedy starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon was also backed by Jio Studios. Bhediya did well but according to the trade, it could have done much better had it been released a week later, on December 2. It won’t be wrong to say that Jio must have remembered this episode and decided to push Son Of Sardaar 2 to avoid a repeat of Bhediya’s box office performance.

3. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil vs Shivaay Now that Son Of Sardaar 2 will release on August 1, it’ll clash with Dhadak 2, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The last time KJo and Ajay clashed was on Diwali 2016, when Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay released on the same day.

When Ajay almost worked with Ahaan Interestingly, Son Of Sardaar 2’s lead Ajay Devgn and Saiyaara’s hero Ahaan Panday almost worked together for a film. This was in 2020 when Aditya Chopra of YRF was planning a superhero flick. It was to feature Ahaan in the lead and Ajay as the villain. The film was shelved for unknown reasons.

I've often been asked what I think is the reason of its immense popularity and I think there's so many reasons. I think in a film, ultimately everything comes together to make it a great film and in this case, you know, of course, it's the popularity of the characters.

How much do you think Salman Khan contributed to the film’s success? Oh tremendously! Every character became iconic, you know, Salman's character as Bajrangi Pawan, then there's of course Munni, then there's, you know, Kareena's character, Nawazuddin's character, Chand Nawab. They all come together in a very entertaining package.

How do you explain the film’s popularity? The film ultimately speaks about love, which I think really resonated with people and even now, even after ten years, people are messaging me almost every week about… just caught it on television again or on the OTT platforms and they cried and they laughed. So, I think it's just the fact that it's a big entertainer with a big heart.

Was it difficult directing Harshaali who sort of played the female lead? It's never easy directing children and it wasn't easy directing Harshaali but at the same time, it was also very, very enjoyable because at the end of the day, children are what really test you as a director. You can't expect them to come like prepared with their craft or, you know, any sort of logic. You have to make them on a day-to-day basis, you know, act in a certain way which is appropriate for the scene. So there's a lot of homework, there's a lot of workshopping that goes behind it. There's a lot of, you know, spending time with them to make them comfortable with you that goes behind getting them to act naturally on screen and Harshaali was somebody who really, even at that young age, had a burning desire to, you know, perform, be in the film.

How did you find her? She was found from amongst two thousand auditions that Mukesh Chhabra had conducted and then she was brought to this workshop where ten girls had been brought together and we workshopped them for a couple of weeks and in that workshop, it was very clear that, you know, Harshaali is not only the fact that she had that million-dollar smile but also the fact that she really had the stamina and the rigor to go through it.

If you had a chance to make Bajrangi Bhaijaan now, what would you change? I think for any director, when you look back at your films, there will always be something or other that you will want to tinker and change and, you know, say, okay, maybe I would not have done it this way. And so with Bajrangi also, of course, there are many scenes which I look at and say, oh, maybe I should have shot it differently or maybe we should have edited differently or maybe the music should have come at a different place but these are small details. When it comes to the larger arc of the film and the larger arc of storytelling, I would change nothing. I think the reason why the film is the iconic film that it is today is because everything came together beautifully. So, yeah, I would not really change anything.

How did you get Salman to be so much in character? A lot of people talk about Bajrangi being Salman's finest and many a times I am asked about how did I manage to get him to, you know, really play a character without any of the usual mannerisms that Salman usually displays in a lot of his other films. But I think a lot of the credit has to go to Salman himself because it's he who decided to completely immerse himself into the character of Bajrangi and I could see him doing that. We used to have a lot of discussions about the character and the story and, you know, there was never a moment in time when I really had to, sort of, change what he was doing or tell him, no, this is not going to work, let's because he just brought it himself to the table and that shows. And that's the reason why his performance is being appreciated so much even after ten years.
