Selena Gomez and Trevor Daniel's Past Life remix is here and it talks about letting go of toxic relationships
After much anticipation, today Trevor Daniel teams up with Selena Gomez for a rework of his trap-infused-pop track 'Past Life'. The track produced by Finneas originally appears on Trevor’s debut studio album, 'Nicotine'. It was teased earlier this week but fans caught on sooner proving no match for the stealthy pop duo.
Gomez spoke with Daniel about the song and why she resonated with the lyrics. “When I heard the song the first time, I loved the fact that it was kind of like a story about all the things that we tend to hold onto and the patterns that we have,” she said. “And I’m very, very vocal about my personal experiences making decisions that maybe aren’t necessarily healthy for me.”
The song definitely talks about letting go of toxic relationships. The lyrics goes, "Last night was the last night of my past life / Got me here like you can never figure me out / Last night was the last time, was the last time /
I'll never let you figure me out / Sitting here, talking to myself / Thinking how I used to use you, only thing I'm used to / Last night was the last time, was the last time, woah."
During the conversation, Selena opened up about the emotional abuse in her past relationship, reportedly referring to Justin Bieber. "It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse. I think that it's something that—I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible."
