20 Years Of Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega: Snehal Daabbi reveals that the 'Shah Rukh shakkar hai toh Hrithik guud' dialogue was inter changed at the dubbing stage
Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega completed 20 years on June 29. The film had a lot of plusses but its most memorable part was the side track involving Snehal Daabbi. He played the role of Aaj Kapoor, a conman who claims to have given break to some of the biggest actors in Bollywood. In one scene, he even says that he’s the one who told A R Rahman to change his name from Dilip! How a small-time ruffian, Aslam Bhai (Johny Lever) falls for his claims forms the crux of the track.
Watching the film in today’s times can be a little shocking especially how names of so many celebs have been uttered in the film. Of course, the dig is not humiliating. But at a time when everyone’s too sensitive, one does wonder how the celebs mentioned in the film must have reacted then and whether it caused any problems for the makers and the actors.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, we posed this question to Snehal Daabbi. To which he said, “There was a dialogue, ‘Hrithik shakkar hai toh Shah Rukh guud’. During the dub, I was told not to address Shah Rukh in that way. So we did vice versa and changed it to, ‘Shah Rukh shakkar hai toh Hrithik guud’. But A R Rahman and all didn’t mind. There was one dialogue of Salman Khan which was edited. We had done a dig on Akshaye Khanna’s baldness too but it was drastically reduced.”
Snehal continued, “At some places, removing or redubbing was not possible. So some names we retained while at some places, we replaced the names. Ab woh character hi waisa hai. He was required to drop these big names. And improvisation mein toh kuch bhi chalta tha. Jhamu Sughand, Suniel Shetty, Mithun Chakraborty etc didn’t mind at all. Fardeen Khan was a part of the film and he was cool. In fact, the dialogue ‘Fardeen ko kaun laaya aaya Juhu se Jungle tak?’ was uttered in front of Fardeen. Aur woh hass hass ke pagal ho gaya tha.”
Even today, Snehal Daabbi’s co-actors from the film remember the film. Snehal told, “Recently I was shooting for Bachchan Pandey and Twinkle Khanna remarked, ‘Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega mein bahut maza aaya tha’. Akshay Kumar jokingly told me, ‘Tune toh meri izzat nikaal di…tu film mein bola ki Bangkok se kaun laaya Akshay ko’!”
And what did Snehal have to say? To which he said, “I replied to Akshay, ‘Aapko akele ko maine out of India bheja hai. Agar main bolta ki Akshay ko Chandni Chowk se kaun laaya, toh socho kaisa lagta’!”
