“The feminist in me was even more activated after this part” - Alia Bhatt on signing Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are gearing up for the world premiere of Gangubai Kathiwadi at Berlinale 2022. The film, which stars Ajay Devgn, Jim Sarbh, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and marks the Bollywood debut of Shantanu Maheshwari, will arrive in theatres on February 25, 2022. Ahead of the release, Bhansali and Bhatt are currently in Berlin promoting the movie as it premiered at the Berlinale 2022.

In a conversation with Deadline, Alia Bhatt said that she didn't have any kind of reluctance to play Gangubai because “at the heart of this film are a lot of powerful social points. It’s an underdog story, a story of struggle. Wherever you come from, I think everyone can connect to a story of rising from the struggle.”

She further said, “The feminist in me was even more activated after this part. I became more sensitive to the conversation of equality, which has been ongoing for a while, and will continue until there’s no need for it.”

Viacom18 Studios & Paramount Pictures International will be distributing Gangubai Kathiawadi in all International markets outside of India. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film is all set to release theatrically on 25th February 2022.
