EXCLUSIVE: “Today, Aan: Men At Work is a cult film on TV channels. Firoz Nadiadwala has approached me to make Aan 2” – Madhur Bhandarkar
Madhur Bhandarkar in an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama talked about the problems he faced after his debut directorial Trishakti (1999), starring Arshad Warsi, Milind Gunaji and Sharad Kapoor, sank without a trace. It took him a while before he found a producer for his next film, Chandni Bar (2001). Starring Tabu, it was a hard-hitting subject which Madhur knew was his forte. He was compelled to make a commercial fare with Trishakti but in Chandni Bar, he followed his heart. It paid him dividends as it emerged as a critical as well as a commercial success.
After Chandni Bar, his two films, Satta (2003), a political drama starring Raveena Tandon, and Aan: Men At Work (2004) also didn’t work at the box office. Did that lead to another round of struggle for him?
To which, Madhur Bhandarkar told Bollywood Hungama, “No. Satta was highly critically acclaimed. As for Aan: Men At Work, it is a cult film on TV channels today. In fact, Firoz Nadiadwala has approached me to make Aan 2. He feels that the world we showed in that film is relevant even today.
Talking further about Aan: Men At Work, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I collaborated with stalwarts in the film like Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Irrfan Khan, Shatrughan Sinha, Paresh Rawal and Om Puri. I really had a great time working on that film.”
Aan: Men At Work tells the story of honest and brave Mumbai Police officers who take on the corrupt politicians and gangsters.
Meanwhile, Madhur Bhandarkar is currently having a busy time. He is gearing up for the release of his film Babli Bouncer, starring Tamannaah Bhatia, on September 23. A few months later, his hard-hitting movie, India Lockdown, would also be released. Both Babli Bouncer and India Lockdown would directly premiere online.
