The poignant ballad, released on Friday along with a visualizer, is co-written by Rihanna, Tems, and Ludwig Göransson. The lyrics go “Lift me up / Hold me down / Keep me close / Safe and sound” in the stripped-down song with piano, harp and strings. A choir is heard in the backdrop. Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, who is also a Grammy-nominated musician, said that the song’s inspiration came from a beautiful heartfelt conversation with Ryan Coogler. “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I've lost in my life," she told Entertainment Weekly. “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me, so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Ahead of the song release on Friday morning, Marvel Studios unveiled the first clip from the upcoming superhero movie. The film marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) who already has her own Disney+ series Ironheart, in the works. The young inventor is introduced in the new clip who builds an armour suit similar to Tony Stark’s and is reportedly the successor of Iron Man in the MCU. The video shows Okoye and Shuri who barge into Riri’s apartment to take her Wakanda, “conscious or unconscious.” The new clip shows the humourous sides of the three women.

In the film, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of Talokan, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livinalli.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reportedly clocks in at 2 hours 41 minutes making the film the longest Phase 4 movie. The film opens in theatres on November 11, 2022, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu in India.
