BTS’ Jin finds his true home in ‘The Astronaut’ cinematic music video; Coldplay’s Chris Martin makes a cameo
Following much anticipation, South Korean juggernaut BTS’ member Jin has released his new solo single ‘The Astronaut’ today. The official music video was unveiled on Friday, October 28.
‘The Astronaut’ is a pop rock genre song co-written by Coldplay; the British band also playing on the recording. The song sits on a beautiful harmony between the calming sound of acoustic guitar and gradual build-up of synth sound.
On October 27, Coldplay gave a sneak peek of the song via their official social media channel, heightening the anticipation ahead of its release. Jin participated in writing the lyrics, serenading his fondness for ARMY, BTS’ fans. The lyrics show profound affection and Jin’s deeply sentimental voice amplifies the refreshing yet dreamy mood of the song. The song feels like a fresh autumn breeze.
‘The Astronaut’ marks the second collaboration between BTS and Coldplay after Coldplay X BTS’ “My Universe” released in September last year. The official music video tells a story of an astronaut who accidentally landed on Earth.
Jin’s detailed expressions and acting absorb the viewers’ attention. In the music video, Jin, the astronaut, lives on Earth after an emergency landing. One day, he sees a mysterious beam calling for home and he is determined to return to his home planet. Coldplay’s Chris Martin appears as a news presenter delivering the breaking news. On his way to the spaceship where we first landed, Jin recalls his memories on Earth as flashbacks. The video sees a heartwarming ending as Jin decides to stay on Earth to stay with his loved ones, eventually finding his ‘true’ home. The lyrics encompass his journey – “When I’m with you / There is no one else / I get heaven to myself.”
On October 28 (local time), Jin will make a special guest appearance at Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Argentina to showcase the first live performance of ‘The Astronaut’.

This marks Jin’s first solo project since BTS announced in June 2022 that they were halting their group activities for now in order to focus on their solo endeavors. On October 17, the agency of the group announced that all seven members will enlist in the military for their mandatory service and will be back together in 2025. Before that, one can expect new music from all the members.
