BH Style Icons 2023: Dil Chahta Hai to K.G.F here are 5 Indian Movies that bought the beard evolution.
Beard is definitely in trend. Gone are the days when men with clean-shaven look were considered heroes and men with beards were looked at as villains. From stubbles to well-designed beards, facial hair has have had its own evolution in mainstream cinema. Let’s have a look at some prominent movies and men who bought about this beard evolution in Indian Cinema. Dil Chahta Hai (2001): This movie was a trendsetter for so many reasons, but this time around, we will focus on Aamir Khan’s iconic soul patch or goatee and the gelled up spikes. This look was a rage in the 2000s and so much, so that some men still sport this look because it is so timeless. Director Farhan Akhtar’s then wife Adhuna Akhtar had a lot to do with the looks of all the three leading men in the movie. Aks (2001): We all know the story of the rise, sabbatical and re-rise of the legendary star Amitabh Bachchan. In his second innings when he sported his French beard look, it was for the movie Aks for Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra. In the director’s memoir The Stranger in the Mirror Amitabh Bachchan penned an excerpt and wrote, “He was the one who designed my French beard for his film Aks; I haven’t removed it since.” Sarkar (2005): Abhishek Bachchan has his own rugged charm and he is one unconventional actor who debuted with an unkempt stubble in Refugee. Even though he had always sported light stubbles in his movies, it was for Sarkar that he had showcased a full grown beard. That, the white shirt and his world-class acting won him a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor that year. Since them be it Dus, Dhoom 2 or Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Bachchan just made his beard his trademark style. Chak De! India (2007): Shahrukh Khan had always been the clean-shaven boy, be it for his villainous roles or for his trademark romantic hero looks. But when he grew a stubble beard for Chak De! India he did not just sport a new look but became a trendsetter. That was mostly what his character demanded but it became such a rage the late director Yash Chopra got him to regrow his beard for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, quoting that, he thinks Khan looks very sexy with a beard. Ghajini (2008): The remake of a Tamil film which was the remake of an American film, Ghajini was undoubtedly a massive success at box office every time it hit the screen. But when Aamir Khan transformed his body with 6 packs, sported that induction buzz cut with a razored partition and light stubble beard, he took the whole game a notch up. He did not just get stars and common men conscious about their bodies but also sent salon’s into a daze with everyone wanting the Ghajini look. K.G.F Chapter 1 (2018): Yash’s look with a full mane of hair and fully grown beard, tailored perfectly for his role as Rocky in the epic K.G.F is to this date a trend picked by most men. There is absolutely no question about his impeccable style and an extremely manicured beard being a total rage. What we like most is the acceptance of that amount of facial hair for a hero into the mainstream cinema. War (2019): From Lakshya to Dhoom 2, this man has been experimental with his looks and beard. Call him Greek God or Grooming God, Hrithik Roshan is one actor who never disappoints with his looks. Rather he can be blamed for getting the heat up a little too much with his perfectly manicured beard and side buzz haircut in the movie War. All of that with the newly ripped lean body and military attire; Roshan just set the bar up so high for men in fashion.
