The romantic drama Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) celebrated its 25th anniversary yesterday, on July 15. Starring Ajay Devgn and Kajol, this Anees Bazmee-directorial was a super-hit at the box office, thanks to its plot, music and performances. But in the case of Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Bijay Anand and Kashmera Shah opened up on their negative experiences.

Bijay Anand revealed in an interaction with Hindustan Times that his voice was dubbed in the film, which caused him embarrassment. He said, “They (the makers) dubbed my dialogues in a voice that sounded very weak and squeaky. It was very embarrassing as my voice is not like that. I was so hurt and felt like I didn’t want to be a part of this industry.”

He further added, “Dubbing my voice just so that the hero (Ajay Devgn) looks better or for whatever reason they had, just left me shocked. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from that shock. I even turned down very big roles at that time.”

Recently, Bijay Anand made a comeback to films and was seen in Shershaah (as Kiara Advani’s father), IB 71 (as the co-pilot) and Adipurush (as Brahma).

Kashmera Shah, meanwhile, talked about her horrifying experience of working with Bijay Anand. She said for the scene where she had to kiss Bijay in the elevator, a lot of retakes were done as the actor kept getting the angle and movement wrong. she stated, “Ajay Devgn and Kajol got very uncomfortable. Ajay came to Bijay and said, ‘I can’t make this girl do this scene again and again. Why don’t you damn stand on your mark?’”

She further said that Bijay Anand acted pricey on the sets. She revealed, “We went to Seychelles to shoot and Bijay started acting like a star. Subah subah orders dene lagte thhe, ‘Mere shoes laao, mera ye kaam karo’. I used to wonder why he behaved like that.”
