Huma Qureshi reveals she was paid Rs. 75000 for Gangs Of Wasseypur; says she was lost in choices after the Anurag Kashyap directorial

Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur, which was released in 2012, became a cult classic. Every actor from the cast, be it the lead or supporting, received recognition after the film was released. Apart from everyone else, the project was a bit more special for Huma Qureshi as it was her debut film. However, after the success of GOW, the actress felt “lost.”

In a conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt’s Mojo Story, Huma asserted, “I got my first brush with success pretty early on. Maybe it was just this enthusiasm of getting out of the house and being (an actor) and then Gangs of Wasseypur happened. By 2010 I moved to Mumbai and by 2012 the film was out and it became a big hit in India. My world just exploded.”

She further recalled, “This was a film where they paid me some Rs 75,000, that’s it… I am working with them (Viacom 18) now, they are my producers. But that was my first film and it wasn’t a fancy affair. There were no five-star hotels, cushioning vanity vans or an army of people (following you). It was like a bunch of people, who went to Varanasi for three months, shot and came back.”

As the Badlapur actress continued, she said, “Because for me coming to Mumbai, meeting people, doing auditions, and getting a film happened rather quickly and I didn’t have a game plan after that. I was lost in choice. I was always working, and that was never a problem but I was lost in myself. Like finding my own voice, finding myself, who I was, what kind of films I like to do, and what I didn’t like to do.”

The Double XL actress expressed her insecurities regarding her appearance, career opportunities, and comparisons with other actors. She felt isolated without anyone to confide in and navigate through those challenges. Despite these struggles, she never considered giving up on her dreams.

Speaking of the professional front, the 36-year-old actress currently stars in Tarla, a film streaming on ZEE5.
