Indian series and films get over 1 billion views in 2023 as per the second edition of What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report

Streaming giant Netflix has just come up with its second edition of ‘What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report’. This report captures Netflix’s global viewership from July to December 2023. The first such report, which came out last year, focused from January to June 2023.

As per the report, Indian series and films got over 1 billion views in 2023. As far as films are concerned, the list is topped by Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan, which starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma. It has a rank of 83 in top 400 worldwide with 20.2 million views. Shah Rukh Khan starrer blockbuster Jawan, which was directed by Atlee, is in the second position with a rank of 120 and 16.2 million views. The third number is secured by Vishal Bhardwaj’a Khufiya with 12.1 million views.

Coming to the web shows, Yash Raj Films’ debut web series The Railway Men tops the Indian web shows list at number 129 with 10.6 million views. Kohraa secures the second spot with a rank of 267 and 6.4 million views. The other two Indian shows falling in the list are Guns & Gulaabs and Kaala Paani.

The report also mentions the performance of the foreign shows in the said period. The first three parts of Lupin generated nearly 100 million views in the second half of 2023 and nearly 200 million views across Cocomelon’s eight seasons. The Witcher (76 million), Virgin River (69 million), The Crown (50 million), Sweet Magnolias (35 million), Top Boy (26 million), Heartstopper (24 million), Sintonia (20 million), and Sweet Home (17 million) were lapped up by the fans too.
