While a portion of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was lifted from Bad Boys, was the romantic track in Bad Boys II INSPIRED by the Govinda-Amitabh Bachchan starrer?
Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, the fourth part of the popular Bad Boys series, is all set to release from tonight in India. The third part, Bad Boys for Life (2020), was a surprise as it collected around Rs. 10 crores and hence, there are expectations that the fourth instalment can also pull in the audience.
Interestingly, Bad Boys is famous in India not just for its entertainment value and chemistry of its lead actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence but also because it has a Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan. Their 1998 comic caper, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, is considered to be inspired by the first part of Bad Boys, which was released in 1995.
In Bad Boys, Julie (Téa Leoni) gets into trouble when she becomes a witness to the murder of her friend, Max (Karen Alexander). The murderers are behind her, and Julie frantically calls the police station. She insists on only talking to Detective Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) since Max had talked highly of him. Mike, however, is missing. Knowing she never met Mike, Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantoliano) forces Marcus (Martin Lawrence) to impersonate him to talk to her. Marcus also decides to hide Jule in Mike's apartment. To guard her, he even stays put in Mike's apartment with Julie while he asks Mike to be with his family.
This was one of the most interesting tracks of the film and it seems that the makers of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan got inspired by it. A portion of the film has a similar plot point. In the remake, it's Neha (Ramya Krishnan) who assumes that Inspector Arjun Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is actually Inspector Pyare Mohan (Govinda). Neha is asked to hide in Pyare's apartment for a similar reason as it was in the original.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan's makers, however, also added the track of Pyare being in love with Seema (Raveena Tandon), Arjun's sister. And for Bad Boys II (2003), the reverse happened. Its makers seem to have gotten inspired by the David Dhawan-directorial!
This is because Bad Boys II shows Mike falling in love with Syd (Gabrielle Union), Marcus' sister. And just like in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Mike is scared of confessing to Marcus that he loves his sister. 'Lekin yeh sach hai tere, bhai se darta hoon' anyone?
