Chunky Panday and Govinda recall being paid less than monkey in Aankhen: “The monkey was given a room at the Sun-n-Sand hotel”

Chunky Panday, Govinda, and Shakti Kapoor recently appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show, where they shared hilarious anecdotes from their time filming David Dhawan's 1993 hit movie Ankhen. The trio revealed a surprising fact: a monkey featured in the film not only received more perks than the actors but was also paid more than Chunky Panday and Govinda.

The Monkey Who Stole the Limelight During the show, Shakti Kapoor teased his co-stars by saying, “We did this film together where these two were the heroes. Actually, no, there were three heroes—Govinda, Chunky, and a monkey. Ask them.” Adding to the revelation, Chunky Panday humorously admitted, “Yes, he was paid more handsomely than us.” Govinda chimed in, saying, “We didn’t get paid.”

The monkey, who played a pivotal role in Ankhen, seemed to have been treated like royalty. Shakti Kapoor further shared, “The monkey was given a room at the Sun-n-Sand hotel in Mumbai. Whenever David [Dhawan] would call for the monkey, Chunky would show up. Whenever he called for Chunky, the monkey would show up.”

While reminiscing about Ankhen brought laughs, Chunky Panday is currently busy with his next project, Housefull 5. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the upcoming comedy stars Akshay Kumar, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, Fardeen Khan, Sonam Bajwa, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Johnny Lever in key roles. The much-anticipated film, originally scheduled for release during Diwali, has now been pushed to June 2025.

Meanwhile, Govinda recently made headlines after he shot himself accidentally. For the unversed, Govinda had been admitted to the Criticare Asia Hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The shot was fired from the actor's own licensed revolver. The actor said the shot was accidental and occurred when he was cleaning his gun before leaving for the airport.
