10 Years of Commando: How the Vidyut Jammwal starrer raised the bar for action films in Bollywood
Vidyut Jammwal got his big break in the John Abraham starrer Force in 2011, which also starred Genelia Deshmukh. He was the antagonist in the action thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The actor was seen as the leading man in an action film for the first time in Commando: A One Man Army in 2013, which was also produced by Shah and directed by Dilip Ghosh.
The film, which turned out to be an iconic action film for it gave birth to Vidyut as the action hero, completed 10 years yesterday on April 12.
Also starring Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Alhawat, the movie revolved around Karan (Vidyut), a fearless and strong Indian commando, who is hell bent in protecting a woman (Pooja) from a local thug (Ahlawat) who forcibly wants to marry her.
Along with the rise of Vidyut, Commando is also known for portraying his unique style of fearless action that he has learnt over the years. The film ensured that the actor started getting known for this skill and continues to do so.
Sharing more about what the film achieved, a statement from the makers said, “Commando: A One Man Army was instilled with a whirlpool of emotions for viewers to feel, from being a perfect popcorn watch to an ideal actioner that has an immaculate amount of romance. Vidyut Jammwal is in top form, doing full justice to the job at hand in the film and Shah has simply lived up to his body of work. Now Commando is all set to become the first super hit franchise to continue on OTT.”
Vidyut was last seen in Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2: Agni Pariksha last year. He now has Crakk and IB 71 as his forthcoming films.
