Hightown star Monica Raymund gives advice to Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt venturing into crime dramas: “Actors bring humanity to it”

As the Hollywood crime saga, Hightown gears up for its finale, fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the unravelling of its gripping narrative. Actress-director Monica Raymund and showrunner Rebecca Perry Cutter recently delved into the intricacies of their show.

Reflecting on their journey with the Lionsgate Play series, Monica, who has been a central figure in the show, shared her thoughts on the genre's appeal and offered valuable advice to Bollywood's leading ladies, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, as they prepare to venture into crime dramas. Monica emphasized the importance of grounding the show in humanity. Speaking to E-Times, Monica said, “I think what's so appealing about a crime-drama, is we get to live something that's hopefully not at all like our real lives. Hopefully, we live very safe lives and we get to watch these crazy things happening. So, I think the actor's job often is to really ground the show. You know, there might be all these crazy twists and turns, but the actors bring humanity to it, which is really how the audience relates. So, always to let the humanity shine amidst the plot.”

Set in beautiful but bleak Cape Cod, Hightown follows one woman's journey to sobriety, overshadowed by an unfolding murder investigation.

Meanwhile, actresses like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt taking on gritty roles. While the former will be starring in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again as a cop, Alia will be playing a spy in YRF’s standalone project from Spy Universe alongside Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol.
